The cinematic introductory trailer from World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich
King is now available, setting the stage for the upcoming MMORPG expansion.
The clip is posted on the
North American and
European World of Warcraft

online, there's an interview with lead game
designer Tom Chilton and production director Jay Allen Brack on Play.tm and
an article-format conversation with Chilton and Brack on
Boomtown.

Nothing beats them on the technical level, but the actualy content and direction is really bad, they really need a real director to fill it out.

Wut meen u?
Going back to the general theme...I think Blizzard's cinematic success is due to the following:
1. The extreme stylization of the world; the further away from reality, the less likely you are to notice mistakes or question things.
2. The limited length and scope of the cinematic; it is easier to make a shorter product than a longer one. Likewise, in theory, the more time you have available to work on a small project, the more time (and theoretical quality) you can invest in the project.
3. Total, utter, pure, unadulterated, complete b*llsh*t. This is not a cinematic of the game, but a cinematic for advertising. FFS BUFF ROGUES ALREADY? FIX MY CLASS! NERF WARLOCKS! Skipping over the whole "skill" aspect, too :o, Ray

I agree. They need to be making full length movies... Yeah, but they need a copy editor to go over their script before recording dialog.
"You SHALL be King..."
Ack! Shall is used as a future modal verb only in the first person singular and plural. Since this line is in the second person singular, it should read:
"You WILL be King..."
Granted, this is a mistake that people make all the time that doesn't affect the basic meaning of the sentence. That said, although less common, this is a grammatical mistake on par with: "You IS the Lich King, Arthas!" In other words, the verb's conjugation does not match the number and person of the subject, a grammatical no-no.
Whatever. Schools don't even give a shit about proper grammar anymore, so why should we expect it from a corporation?

Badass as always. Blizzard and Blur Studios (who did the first Dawn of War intro and others) really have no peer imo.
As someone already mentioned, Square can keep up with pretty much anyone when it comes to CG. That said, Blizzard rocks at it, and has for as long as I can remember. Even their ancient games had great CG stuff for the time. This message was edited at Aug 21, 19:36. |

Possible WOTLK spoilers below...
WOTLK is really pushing mounted combat with dragons and vehicles (Siege tanks, Undead plague spreaders, etc.). The mounted combat quests are fun and really adds lots of variety. There are lots of classic fetch-this, go-kill-that quests. However most focus on the battle with the Lich King's armies, as well as the war between the various Dragonflights. The Scarlet Onslaught (formerly known as the Scarlet Crusade) also play a big part in the game. Nerubians have a large part as well. You'll be able to explore the Nerubians' underground kingdom of Azjol-Nerub as an instance. Lastly the ancient troll kingdom of Zul'Drak is featured prominently as a zone in northeastern Northrend.
It's worth noting that the war between the Dragonflights is NOT in the cinematic, but I would say it is half of the expansion content. The epicenter of this war occurs in the zone of Dragonblight... as well as Coldarra; Malygos' fortress.

Like the WAR trailer. If thats all you saw you'd think WARs combat was absolutely amazing. But if you turned around and played the game you'd find it's slow and repetitive and the same-old tired MMOG combat.. though even more boring somehow
Glad I'm not the only one who felt that way
I wanted that game so bad, and then when I finally got a chance to play it it just left me scratching my head. It was a new game that totally left me feeling like I'd already played it for a few years and I was already bored of it.
Wrath of the Lich King is shaping up to be great, though. The beta is fun, and its actually got me interested in playing WoW again despite being determined not to ever go back earlier this year. It's not new but they're making it feel at least fresh.

I don't mind cinematic trailers. Accept in console game commercials were it's usually 58 seconds of cinematics and 2 seconds of actual gameplay.

Comparing Pixar's style of computer animation to Blizzard's is like apples-to-oranges. If you want to compare apples-to-apples compare Blizzard's cinematics against Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. That was an awesome film, visually. It had lots of details, and demonstrated that a 2-hour computer animation film can be made with that level of detail.

I think its because they're not making a full length movie they come out so good. I imagine they spend way more time on a 5 minute cinematic than pixar spends on any 5 minutes of their films. That attention to detail certainly pays off for Blizzard, but not so practical when you're talking about a 2 hour movie.

Nobody can make Cinematics like these guys. People like Lucasarts & Pixar should be looking to Blizzard for there quality. Just my .2. I agree. They need to be making full length movies...
