But will it have backwards compat? That is the kicker for me. Still looking for the ps3 I want.
Bats, you're gonna have to find a 20 or 60 gigger for that, and good luck. I think Sony has tossed BC and will eventually offer PS2 games via digital download (which sucks if you have the game or can get it cheap). The nice thing is that you can take that 60GB PS3 and throw a 500GB drive in it if you want right off the bat.

Either way, I'm happy I got my 60GB when I did; I love me some God of War II and SotC.

He told me, "Shit, I had to replace my PS2 every two years". He bought three of those damned things over time because they all burned up.
My original Playstation would use the lens to scratch discs and then stopped reading altogether (gee, wonder why ). Sent it in for service, got it back, and immediately, out of the box, it did the exact same thing. Sent it right back to them.

It scratched about 6-8 discs and they sent me replacements for 2.

After that, I had no desire to use it, or buy a PS2 (some of the games looked neat, but I wasn't about to trust their hardware again). And until the PS3 hits $299 with backwards compatibility, I see no reason to entertain buying one.

10. Re: Outta Leipzig Aug 21, 2008, 02:33 Paranoid Jack

Is there a Little Big Planet bundle planned? I was planning on picking up a PS3 right after I get my new HDTV in the next month or three.

And yes a lot of this is repeated news. There have been stories about both the PS3 and the 360 having a longer life cycle this generation. Plus the rumors of an add-on BluRay drive for the 360. I think most of it is spin or plain old PR from both MS and Sony.

On a side note my bro's 360 finally went to gamer heaven... or the junk yard. He was having over-heats (three lites in the ring) while playing 2K sports games. All other games ran fine. Anyway he bought it a couple months after release and has blown it out regularly with an air-can. But that still didn't help.

Apparently he took it apart since he figured he would rather buy a new Arcade version than pay somebody to fix the one he had. It was two and a half going on three years old and it had built up quite a bit of dust inside around the CPU and circuit board. He blew it out and put it back together and its still three lites dead.

No surprise to me since he plays it twenty times more than I play mine. He's got hundreds of hours out of that system for Oblivion alone. I figured since he was unemployed for over two years he has had to pass three thousand hours of usage between games and movies.

I expected him to get all butt-hurt like so many MS haters do on the Net. But he didn't. He told me, "Shit, I had to replace my PS2 every two years". He bought three of those damned things over time because they all burned up.

Maybe that's how Sony plans to make a profit with the PS3.

GTA IV DLC still on for autumn.
Goes from a date to something completely vague? Sucks. Not that I will have time to play anyway....

That article contains no new information whatsoever. The same thing has been said for months now. There have been similar articles in the past regarding the 360 with similar loss numbers ($3 billion losses).

Dave Perry no longer works at/for Shiny Ent. and he doesn't work for Sony either. So I'm not sure what he stands to gain by repeating information that was already public and has been for months.

However I do see his source of income these days is speaking engagements at conferences, the list is quite long. So I guess maybe he is just running out of original things to say.

Keep in mind that's on the hardware front, that doesn't take into consideration the money made on licensing for games and Blu Ray. I have a feeling Sony's not kicking themselves for bringing out the PS3, just for making it so expensive to make. They knew they were gonna take a hit, but they probably didn't expect it to last this long (most likely because of the pricing f*ck up in the beginning).

On another note, the Killzone 2 MP movie looked freaking awesome, too bad nobody seems to want to play console MP games like that (as a group). There's too many asshats that want to go lone wolf in the games.

On another point you bring up; I read perhaps a month ago a quote from a spokesman for Microsoft that there are definately no plans for them to put out a Blu-ray external add-on.
I'm guessing Sony is doing their best to keep an external BD drive off the 360, i'm not sure how much influence they have on this, maybe anyone making a BD drive has to license it from Sony? Not sure but it would be very bad for Sony to lose that advantage in the console battle.

Killzone 2 looks really good btw. I watched that multiplayer trailer and it appears to be a co-op demonstration and staged but the visuals are impressive. I'm very interested in seeing the final product. Resistance 2 as well.

Well, I didn't already have a 360 so it was a much easier purchase for me to make, but I can fairly confidently say that I wouldn't have purchased a PS3 if I had already owned a 360.

2. PS3 loses money Aug 20, 2008, 14:11 Tumbler

During his keynote speech at GCDC yesterday, the outspoken games developer claimed that the company has lost more money on the PlayStation 3 than it made during the five year peak sales period of the PlayStation 2.
Assuming that is true, this is a devastating reality for Sony. I think everyone knew they were taking a hit selling the system, but to have to chop the price almost immediately on the system on top of that was brutal.

The PS3 is looking better these days but I'm still unconvinced that spending dollars on the machine will feel like a good value when I've got a 360 and PC at home already. A Blu-Ray attachment drive for $200 or below for the 360 is really all I'm looking for.

Some of the games coming look quite good but there is just so much multiplatform that is available it will be hard to convince people that they need a PS3 to play a handful of games. (PS3 exclusives)

A beefed up Tomb Raider Underworld engine is what is being used for Deus Ex 3, so I'm glad it looks pretty decent!
