I played SH:2 & 3 on the PS2 and enjoyed them enough to see them through completion. I tried SH:4 on the PC and although I was enjoying it, I only played 25% of it but that was because alot of AAA titles started coming out at that time so I got diverted and never went back. I'm looking forward to Cominghome.

Every RE and SH games control scheme uses a stick to Move Forwards, Move Backwards, Turn Left, Turn Right, and one button causes a 180 turn. The interact button will cause contextual prowess (such as jumping down from a height) That might apply to RE4 but SHH uses the standard control scheme of console shooters. Left stick moves forward/back and strafes left and right, right stick controls your direction and free look.

Go and read the examples I put forth (MGS4, GTA4, etc).
They all feature 360 degrees of freedom with the ability to target and dodge effectively.

There's no jump button, but your character is capable of flawless high caliber Olympian acrobatics through windows. Fences are a challenge.
My character is absolutely humongous on the screen. Half the screen is taken up by a character I don't want to see.
RE's control scheme is identical in every game, with minor changes that do nothing to improve, but only to facilitate lazy designers needs. SH Homecoming may present a decent combat system, but I feel confident the rest will be the same old, same old. edit: With extra grease.

If RE and SH want to get my money, they had better start adopting a better control scheme. You should really do some research before starting such rants. RE4 completely changed the camera angles and controls of the series and brought it in line with the games you mentioned. Silent Hill Homecoming does the same.

Whoopdefuck. Another 'suspenseful' 'horror franchisee'. Y'know... the minute it's a horror FRANCHISE, that should be a BIG red klaxon that tells people it's going to suck balls and you should just go look elsewhere. When it's no longer considered an intellectual property (meaning their's no intelligence left in the property), and now it's just a franchise.
Y'know what folks? McDonalds is a fucking franchise too. Resident Evil, is now a franchise. Doom is still an IP. Mass Effect is an IP. Gears of War is still an IP, but it'll be a franchise after the second one is released. Then they'll create a third installment in that franchise and release a boxed set.
Silent Hill had the most convoluted story, had an idiotic control scheme (much like RE) and tried to be more than it needed to be. When the movie came out, I went and watched it, hoping it would sell me on the idea of this game that I have played through three installments of. Nope. At the end of the movie I decided to kiss of this 'franchise' because frankly, it didn't do anything special back in the first one, and it hasn't really done anything special since.
The CG has always sucked, the controls have never improved, the game play has never changed and the story is just plain mind numbing. Fuck this franchise.
After playing Alone in the Dark 5, I can honestly say I have a new standard for 'horror franchisees' and it's not because AotD5 was a stellar game, but because it innovated the horror gameplay. It tried to add elements to a tired system and it worked pretty well. There were shortcomings, but at least they tried.
If RE and SH want to get my money, they had better start adopting a better control scheme. Something akin to Grand Theft Auto 4, or Lost Planet, or Metal Gear Solid 4, or fuck it, even AotD 5! |

Count me in. Silent Hill never scared me as much as the old-school Resident Evils, because shock scares work better on me than atmospheric ones. Still, Resident Evil's moved away from that, and Silent Hill didn't have to make me crap my pants to be damned good.
Kind of worried about the "enhanced combat system," since being completely inept with weapons has always been a charm of the series. Still, the fact that they're at least bothering to work this into the storyline instead of being lazy about it is a good sign. |

I wonder if they can do a better job of it than Capcom did of RE4
