Out of the Blue

So I have an appointment with the tree guy today, and my instructions are to have him even out the appearance of the tree that I mauled without actually cutting any more away. I'm not very clear on how he's supposed to accomplish that… I think I need to find out if we can get a tree toupee.

Fake test post to see if Hump is just going crazy.

I will edit this post afterward to say that I am / am not getting the "Return to board" button.
Lies!
Edit: Darn it, he's right. It is not showing.

Editx2: Bizarrely, it is showing after I edit a post...

BTW, I'm with Ray re; the boards. Its time for an update. I'll volunteer some time after work to help get them in place if that will help (not that I have any experience porting message boards or anything......)

Are eight servers really needed for the two dozen or so of us that sit on this site and hit F5 all day long?

Sorry about that. The server has been moved, and I think a database was turned back on before it was done migrating.
No worries. I didn't write the ultimate secrets of the universe in there or anything.

....or did I?

I should take a closer look at that Aeron chair you guys are mentioning. It looks a bit weird, but I might have to try one out. Then try justifying the cost..

Heh. My last post was eaten by the database-grue.

A couple of other wonky things are happening, like odd redirects to random UGO sites, but that's being worked on, and hopefully will cease to be a problem soon enough...

Isn't that more of a pedicure?
I'm thinking instead of toupee, it would be more of a tree merkin. Go ahead... Google it...

Yeah, we have these EVERYWHERE in the buildings I work in. There are a few cloth crap chairs around, and when you need to sit in a cube that isn't yours, you find one with an Aeron chair.

That is actually the kind of chairs we have all over at work. They are nice.
But my leather La-Z-Boy with heat and massage function is much more comfortable!

BTW Blue in your picture of your office, what sorta chair is that and how comfy/sturdy is it?
That's a Herman Miller Aeron chair.

http://www.hermanmiller.com/CDA/SSA/Product/0,,a10-c440-p8,00.html

At one point I heard them described as a signature part of all those overblown start ups of the dot-bomb era, and indeed I first saw them in ION Storm's lavish offices where there was one at every desk, in spite of their hefty price tag. At one point you could get them cheap on eBay when these companies were closing left and right.

The chair is intended as highly ergonomic, and succeeds as such. While I have used more comfortable chairs (don't get me wrong, it's very comfortable, but you can pad something with extra cushioning for a sitting on pillows effect), this one has served me well. I used to suffer from occasional crippling backaches, but I have not had one since getting the chair about 10 years ago. This is all the more remarkable if you factor in me being a decade older (I should have worse back problems by now, rather than have them go away).

The price has come down a bit over time too... if it fits your budget, I recommend it highly -- especially if you've had back problems. In fact, if you are going to use the chair a lot over a long time, then its sturdy construction and lack of cushions to get all funky make it cost effective. I've used this guy more or less every day for 10 years with more than my share of 17 hour days, and it's in almost perfect condition, whereas I used to go through a new chair of the cheaper variety every year or two.
