E3 was never open to the public. But, in the early editions, it didn't take much to fool your way into the show. You simply need a tenuous connection to the industry to get in. Now, they are pretty strict about who to let in. In fact, many smaller magazines and websites can no longer go.

Yes that was E3, along with many other restrictions.
And for Riley, I'm sure you are lurking out there. As usual you disagree with me, for the sake of doing so, and spew more bullshit...refering to the thread where I brought up the many restrictions that E3 had in place, and how you claimed the restrictions weren't a problem and had no impact
All I can say is, I told you so. Not even a full week later we have how many company executives being vocal about how shit E3 is and that major changes need to happen? Along with all the articles about the state of E3 complaining about restrictions.
Riley you are a fucking retard, but we all already knew that.

Was it E3 that cut back the number of fans that could go to the event, or else, cut out fans altogether? I remember something a few years back where a giant gaming convention stop allowing regulars off the street, either in number, or in total from participating.
That couldn't be a good idea.

re Red Faction - RF1 wasn't exactly a highly detailed game either. The fact is any kind of destructible terrain etc eats up lots of memory. hence you'll see sparse environments and character models that are slightly less detailed than most games have nowadays. Thats something i can deal with since detsroying buildings is just too much fun. I think that was a workflow issue. All the destructible items in RF1 were modeled, not generated on the fly.

The list is fairly pointless. I can think of bigger games to be worried about and many of the ones on the list are no brainers or just pointless.
A cell phone game being mediocre? Wii Music paling in comparison to GH or RB? Bionic Commando heavily focusing on the grappling hook aspect? Clone Wars being a bit simplistic? I don't know about everybody else, but I'm utterly shocked now...../yawn.
I think Underworld may have a lot of issues, but complaining about an emphasis on exploration over combat in a Tomb Raider game is a bit retarded...
Really, overall, this E3 was a big letdown. Nothing really stood out and a lot of titles are going to end up being fairly bad, limited, or outright generic. It's not related to this news entry, but I love all the stories going up about how E3 is dead and blaming the event. There are some issues with how the event is being handled, but it would probably have been a much better E3 if there were great games and a plethora of information. At the end of the day, I'll be buying a game, not a location or booth babe. Shrugging, Ray

I believe in Relic.
DoW2 sounds like a worthy successor of Ground Control. Both GCII and World in Conflict were pretty crappy and ruined what made GC1 great (tactics focussed with a limited number of squads and no resources).
And Relic proved with Homeworld 1+2 that they are top notch when it comes to heavily scripted missions.

That's a pretty good list. I agree on Red Faction and Fracture. Both look uninspiring and bland.
MAG has got to be the worst title in a long time. It was bad enough that Sony showed pre-rendered footage of the game; they should have showed something about how 256 player games would look and play like.
And I agree with the remarks regarding Dead Space. It gives me the impression that the EA devs were thinking "Hey, let's make a game like The Thing set in space, but the character will be alone." I hope I'm wrong about it (and they better release a demo), but right now, it's not high on my list.
Another title I would add on there would be Fable 2. I watched some gameplay for about 10-15 minutes and was not impressed in the least.
