The heat wave was supposed to break around here a couple of different times over
the weekend, but each time we approached this theoretical relief they
changed the forecast to say it would continue to sizzle (it's starting to seem
like the mission count in Catch 22). Surprisingly, this has not resulted
in any power-related issues, so hopefully the grid will continue to hold up
until things cool off a bit.

Nah. I read Bill Simmons frequently, and he gives an update on the Macho Man at least once a week.

Wow. It's about time someone decided to create a website devoted to pictures of businesses that forgot to turn off/around the open sign before they went home for the night.
The only thing that could possibly be more entertaining now is a site specializing in pictures of homes with their xmas decorations still up after January.
And how is the music store so "clearly" closed? Because no one supposedly buys CDs and records any more??

On a lighter note - we started watching Dexter this weekend as well, and I must say, I am impressed and once again enjoying a series. Dexter is definitely a great show. I'll admit I kind of had my reservations early on because someone mistakenly told me it was a serial killer that only killed other serial killers, in Florida. I laughed quite a bit because I really doubt there are enough hypothetical serial killers in Florida to warrant many episodes. But fortunately I was told wrong.
I think everything comes together deliciously: acting, story lines, etc. I recommend watching it on Showtime or DVD, as I believe the reruns they show on Network censor bits out.
Watch Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End this weekend.....maybe I am an idiot - but the first half of the movie is slow, not connected, and dumb as hell. I have to admit, I liked the 3rd movie. In my opinion the 1st was the best, 2nd was horrid, and 3rd was good.
I think to easily follow the 3rd movie you should have have seen the 2nd movie shortly before the third. Though it looks like a couple of days/weeks have passed between, the general flow is that the 3rd is taking place immediately after the 2nd.
The final scenes of the 2nd segway into the beginning of the 3rd, so if it's been a year since you saw the 2nd (or you never saw/finished it) then I could understand how it might look disjointed.
Anyway, much of the 3rd movie (if not all) was shot at the same time as the 2nd.

Blue, at least you didn't stand for 8 (!!) hours on Saturday in the 5th avenue line waiting for an iphone ... :-) Yikes, no have my pity. Between the weather and my hatred of overly-crowded places that would be utter heck for me for just 1 hour, let alone the length of a work-day. Heck, I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would warrant me waiting in a hot line for 8 hours.
I have to say, I got a chance to use one of the classic iPhones recently and I was very impressed. In the past I've only had a chance to glance at it and click a few things before I had to move onto other things, but this time I have to say that I was tempted to try to purchase one in a few weeks.
However I do not qualify for an equipment upgrade since I replaced my old phone a few months ago, and I do not feel like spending the full price. And even though 3G is available at my home and office I'd rather not pay the extra fee each month for unlimited Internet and 200 text messages. So that's more money than I'd want to spend on a phone, no matter how cool it is. And finally, there's no way I'd want one enough to deal with crowded lines.
Eh, maybe next year. But the monthly fee might still be enough for me to ignore it.
