You haven't needed to grind to level in WoW for ages, if ever (I know I never did), no matter if you are alliance or horde. You can get to 60 without touching an instance and still have lots of quests left. 61-70 you will probably have about two full zones left if not more depending on how much you play and if you did any instances on the way, again alliance or horde makes no difference.

I agree on alliance having a more pleasant low level (10-25) experience than horde, more variation and "better" quests but it also depends on what race you choose. As for blizzard favoring alliance over horde they are pretty much the exact same now and what difference there were before tbc I would say horde had the better pvp racials.

overall in WoW it still seems that Blizzard heavily favors the Alliance over the Horde.
Because when a noob buys the game they will probably join the alliance. Blizzard carebeared things for them. Not so true on the Horde side. Many of quests are slightly harder. There's also a larger percentage of required grinding to level. Don't get me wrong, the horde has its share of immaturity but overall it is populated with hardened MMO veterans; mainly there for PVP and hardcore raiding.

I'm sure many of you heard the saying "fight fire with fire". In the context of lore I'm thinking the reason DK will be available to both factions has to do with the mindset that the true enemy of the world is Arthas/Lich King and the factions must defeat him by any means necessary. That means accepting Death Knights into the fold.

Kind of like how during WW2 American forces utilized German speaking soldiers to communicate with civilians. I'm sure at the time many of the English-speaking solders didn't trust them, but the common goal was to defeat Hilter and Nazi Germany.

The only reason Horde is getting Death Knights is due to Horde now having paladins.

I kinda hoped the Shaman would get the same sorta lovin that paladins got pre-BC. but overall in WoW it still seems that Blizzard heavily favors the Alliance over the Horde.

Haven't they felt left out for two years now? I'm wondering how they're going to add DKs to the alliance, story-wise.
Same way they're going to add them to the Horde, however that is. Remember, Death Knights are/were the enemy of both factions. The Horde would be even less tolerant of them than the Alliance, lore-wise.

I imagine it has something to do with the Lich King losing his psychic grip on your Death Knight character, etc.

Close, they've said you will start at 55. I haven't run a tank yet so I'm now saving that effort for my DK. Oh, and no quest. At release if you have a level 55 toon you'll be able to create a DK.

I don’t think DKs is a horde-only thing. It's an archetype class. I'm going to assume remnants of Dalaran or defected Death Knights will provide a series of quests similar to how players obtain a Netherdrake mount. At the end of the quest-chain the ability to create a Death Knight is unlocked. From what I remember reading you will be able to create a character, pick the DK class, and you start at a high level (I'm going to assume level 60).

I going to imagine the expansion is done. What is probably eating up Blizzard’s time is balancing the matrix of new stuff they’ve created.

First and foremost the Death Knight class is a huge addition to the game. It follows an entirely new set of mechanics. There will be brand new abilities that players won’t expect such as the ability to “pull” targets (e.g. think Scorpion from Mortal Kombat). Blizzard has classified Death Knight as an anti-spellcaster tanking class. This is huge. Blizzard’s job is to make sure DK blends in with existing classes so that DKs’ don't become over-powered or under-powered. Warriors and Paladins don't want to feel left out.

Next increasing the level cap to 80 means all new spells and abilities for all existing classes. Blizzard mentioned they were revamping many existing skills that players (and Blizzard) felt were totally useless. This adds a level of variation to the playing field. Blizzard mentioned the possibility of adding new abilities like knockbacks to certain classes to counter DK’s “pull” abilities. Of course this might be an issue in EOTS where a knockback could conceivably knock a player off the surface into certain death.

Naxx is being retuned to be an entry level instance at 70 with a new system of difficulty.

Blizzard said they’ll introduce three tiers of difficulty for the new instances (including Naxx). Each instance will have 5-, 10-, and 25- versions with different levels of rewards.

PVP is being revamped into three tiers of gear. The highest gear will have stats on par with stuff you would get from a 25- instance.

The new outdoor PVP zone with introduce siege warfare with vehicles players can jump into and out of. We're talking flying ships, siege vehicles, scouter vessels... all of which can be driven by one player while other players fire its weaponry.

Like I said I really think the core game is done... they just have the daunting task of balancing EVERYTHING.

I'm still picking up expansions, but I play to the level cap and get burned out quickly. So, I'll probably only be playing for the first month or two after each WoW expansion. I'm sure alot of people will continue to pick up expansions to max out characters.

And yes, I think AoC has hit the right time period to release. All it needs now is for it to be good.

Where one die-hard dies off, two seem to take his/her place.
Between now and when BC came out, their player base has grown substantially. I don't know if it'll continue to grow; I see your point, but I also see a lot of people (like myself) who have stopped playing and frozen their account starting up again once the expansion comes out.

You've gotta catch the WoW players after they've had their fill.

Which if you ask me, is right about NOW. No known content patches coming before the expansion which is still a least a few months away. Now is the proper time...
Here's hoping Conan is a lot of long-lasting fun : )

I'm fully expecting to check out wrath in half a year, after I've gotten sick of Conan... I'm just hoping it takes that long (to get sick of it)...

I agree releasing your MMORPG at the same time as a WoW expansion is a bad idea.

I actually wonder if that's really the case anymore.

Of all the people I played Warcraft with, only my brother is really excited for the new expansion. Everyone else is looking for something new; it's really too little too late for the rest of us, and the only things they've hyped about it other than a new class is more of the same grinding shit that they've pumped out since their last expansion. It'll still be extremely popular, but the number of die-hards isn't there like it was when Burning Crusade came around.

I agree releasing your MMORPG at the same time as a WoW expansion is a bad idea. Just look at Vanguard and Burning Crusade.. even if Vangard was a good game, you can bet BC cut into their base regardless (of course, Vanguard was panned for being unfinished anyways). You've gotta catch the WoW players after they've had their fill.

Mythic is doomed. They've postponed the launch of WAR to around the same time as the WoW expansion and their game is both very similar and yet quite different from WoW. But because of that similarity it's most likely going to try and draw WoW players to their game. If it comes out within a month of the WoW Expansion it just isn't going to happen.

I can see them drawing old DAoC players to the game. But the vast majority of the WoW community is going to stick with WoW and the new expansion.

If you try and walk the path of the giant, you'll just get stepped on.

I have NO DOUBT that Vivendi's upper management COULD be stupid enough to force Blizzard to release before Blizzard thinks they are ready. However, I don't know that's the case. Only time will tell....
