oh, as a swift addendum to my comment earlier; i also meant to say, I hope my criticism of the AI doesnt put anybody off trying this demo. The AI soldiers in this demo are accepted to be crude, ill trained/ equipped as large parts of the Italian forces were in Husky. ( It is often pointed out that with very little leadership or support by way of artillery/mechanised units, the italians actually did a fairly sturdy job of making the americans pay for the ground they took. Had it been Waffen SS Storm Troopers Husky may have been considerably less successful and more bloody, much like the allied deliberation at Anzio was costly....) anyway i digress....so on the scale of i think approximately 9-10 different types/abilities of Nazi uniform these guys are the 'basic training' 'drafted' boys of the italian interior, and therefore understandably seem "stupid and a bad shot". what i will qualify is that right at the end of the demo as you think you are about to squeeze a bit more action out of it prior to the demo ending, you are facing the 'German Heer' troops - basically army personel of the Wehrmacht (luftwaffe ground crew and members of the navy drafted into Wehrmacht uniform). This implies that they are of a slightly higher grade/calibre than the italian forces, which they certainly - for those fleeting seconds at least - seem to be.
In a nutshell - the AI and opposition may certainly increase in skill, ingenuity and general nasty nazi-ness as the game progresses - at least i hope so. Sorry for rambling

Hello, I thought this was an ok demo, on expert it was quite immersive and required some concentration, as opposed to some other games of a similar genre, i agree it is a reminder of Cod2 although i could not help feeling it was less gritty and perhaps a little consoley in that sense. Did anyone find that if you got the 3rd marksman awards with a rifle, the dudes flew miles when you shot them? that was kind of fun, and almost echoes HL2. On the down side, the AI are still stupid, and a bad shot, but way more aggressive in close quarters. i also found that whilst the parachuting etc was quite cool, and 'greased' landings were rewarding, the disappearance of dead enemies was highly annoying. Maybe i am the only one who thinks this, but there should be more blood and gore in wwII shooters, you know: pink mist, body parts, screaming - in this demo, there is the odd spurt with a well aimed headshot - i dunno, you see it in other games and then i find myself wondering why wwII Fps' are left out. A frag grenade should frag a nazi, not just aliens etc and leave a nice mess.
Anyway, on the whole it left me wanting more, sorry that wasnt particualrly technical but i had no issues with frame rate or anything, jsut crashed once at a checkpoint.
info:
Intel Core Duo 2GBRAM nvid Geforce 8800GTX XP pro 32 bit.
Anyhoo - i'll give it a bash i reckon, will be annoyingly easy i think....hmph.

Compared to COD2, this was OK. COD2 had better audio and was more immersive (though this is just a demo).
Although you could land anywhere, the combat felt scripted to a certain extent and also the environments felt fairly walled-in Also I think the weapon upgrade system is kind of silly. meh

I like the graphic, the idea of dropping onto whatever area, etc. However, the control feels not so smooth. Controls were interesting when using iron sights. Audio seem limited (5.1 only and I only have 4.1).

The console heritage is definitely noticeable but it seems like the game will be highly customizable. I've been too lazy to play around with the settings but in the MoH.ini there's a ton of options for things such as field of view so that you should be able to make it look more like a PC game. I also hope that they will have save anywhere in the full version. There is an inaccessible save & load section in the controls where you will probably or hopefully be able to set the hotkeys for quick save and quick load in the full game. I liked it so far except for the seemingly zoomed in view and the weird way too large crosshairs (consolish interface). I'm confident that this crap can be tuned via the ini though. Another gripe would be that it seems like the AI ain't doing shit while you're not looking. Seems to be heavily scripted so that all battles require your involvement. Kinda defeats the purpose of the freedom of play but otoh it would prolly be mighty fucking boring if the AI would clear a map leaving nothing to do for you. Looking good overall though. I think I'll get this ASAP after release. Just hope it won't be too short.

So pretty much sounds like Pacific Assault...Pass.
I'm done with the Call of Duty series too. I enjoyed the games, but I'm tired of the linear scripted WW2 shooters, and they skipped PC on CoD3.

This is a console fps. It has regenerating health and quake style health, ammo, and item placement in the level. It's got similarities to the way gears of war works when you run forward ie the fov changes, the screen shakes very much like in gears of war. The cover system is first person but similar to gears of war as well. The FOV seems off however like less than 90. Again typical of console fps games. Enemies take many hits to kill and when you hit a crosshair appears onscreen as a way to tell you you have scored a hit. Dead bodies disappear quickly which makes it feel more arcady. The mouse aim feels off like the acceleration is way too high. It's got a weird reward system where your weapons get powered up as you do certain things like kill enough enemies. For example I got 2 rewards, one made my smg have less recoil and the other allowed my bolt action rifle to fire faster.
None of the objects in the level are destructable or interactable except for the stuff you have to put a demo charge on.
Graphically it does seem more like unreal engine 2.8. Not unreal engine 2.5 and not unreal engine 3.
Based on the demo, it's a completely average fps heavy on console fps elements.

Add another gamer to the "pleasantly suprised" list. I grabbed the demo from FileFront on the off chance it could fill a shooter shaped void in my life, and what do you know, it did and pretty damn well. Not played a WW2 shooter since CoD2 I guess but loved MoHAA and MoHAA MP. Really great feel and atmosphere to the game and the squad AI isn't crap!

I was expecting crap, and was pleasantly surprised with a game that may have made it's way to my buy list when it comes out.
Echoing the other posts, nothing revolutionary, just good solid shooting/moving & gunplay, excellent performance, and fairly nice graphics thanks to UE3.

getting the latest drivers makes a colossal improvement on nvdia cards. I found it a little bit meh, but I'm so used to cod 2 its hard to be objective. It feels horribly console like to me, in it's gui and texture res (horribly low). Theres some very trendy new shader effects on blurred vision, which some may like. If you dislike unskippable videos and briefing bits, that will annoy you too. |

Use the same method with Bioshock for AA, nHancer (nhancer.com) + 4xMSAA + "00000045: Rainbow Six Vegas" antialiasing compability mode.
