Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 Revelations DLC Announced (For PC Too)

Konami announces new Revelations DLC coming on March 25th for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, their first-person shooter sequel. The press release they sent about this only mentions consoles, but we confirmed that an oversight was behind that omission, and the Windows edition of the DLC is expected that day as well. Here's word:

Entitled ‘Revelations’, the new content will be released on March 25 for Xbox Live Games on Demand and PlayStation®Network, and follows fan-favorite Alucard as exclusive new branches of the immersive storyline are uncovered. Alucard, the turned son of Gabriel, has shunned human life for many years, choosing to hunt only creatures of the night. The DLC takes place just before the apocalyptic events of CASTLEVANIA: LORDS OF SHADOW 2, where Alucard readies for his father’s return and the forthcoming battle against Satan. As the plot unfolds, it begins to reveal how the lone vampire is inextricably linked to his father’s fate.

‘Revelations’ takes place within the epic world seen in CASTLEVANIA: LORDS OF SHADOW 2. Playing as Alucard, gamers must discover the legendary vampire’s secrets, unearth the true extent of his involvement in Dracula’s story, and set in motion the events of CASTLEVANIA: LORDS OF SHADOW 2. The DLC expands the incredible story of the recently-released sequel, with the fate of the Belmont clan unveiled. Alucard has his own unique, powerful abilities, including use of the Glaciem and Igneas powers, in addition to vampiric abilities which allow him to transform into a wolf, a swarm of bats and even turn back time. Blood also fuels capabilities, as drinking the blood of enemies will intensify immortal powers.

Tomb Raider "Exceeded Profit Expectations"

A message to fans on the Tomb Raider Blog wishes the Tomb Raider reboot a happy birthday, as it was released about one year ago, and speaks optimistically about a follow-up, saying: "We can’t wait to continue our adventures with Lara in the sequel that is in development at Crystal Dynamics" (thanks Eurogamer). This continues the oddly mixed messages about the reception the action/adventure has met with, saying by the end of this month the game will surpass six million units sold, and: "having achieved profitability back in 2013 Tomb Raider has exceeded profit expectations and continues to make significant contributions to our overall financial performance." This is in stark contrast to a statement from Square Enix one month after the game's release citing disappointing sales, which seemed to contrast early reports from Crystal Dynamics the game was setting a sales record. This difference of opinion continues, as now Crystal Dynamics speaks once again of how well the game has performed:

By the end of this month we will surpass 6 million units for our Tomb Raider reboot, and, having achieved profitability back in 2013 Tomb Raider has exceeded profit expectations and continues to make significant contributions to our overall financial performance.

At launch we set franchise records for the fastest selling day one and month one in Tomb Raider history. With the positive word of mouth and continued commercial momentum it’s great to see Tomb Raider (2013) on course to become the best-selling game in the history of the franchise! This would be a crowning achievement for the teams around the world, and one that we have our sights firmly set on!

DICE: No Damage from BF4 Launch; New Patch; Carrier Assault Details

Battlefield 4 PC Game Update Mar 6 Patch Notes are quite lengthy, describing fixes and tweaks to various aspects of DICE's military shooter sequel. Among all the changes is word that the game's maximum rank has been increased to 120. Also, GameSpot (thanks CVG) has a report from a financial conference where EA CFO Blake Jorgensen explained to investors that a buggy launch has not damaged the Battlefield brand, saying consumers have been "very responsive" to the patches and blaming the problems with the game's launch on complexities of working on the new console systems. Finally, there's an update on The Battlefield Blog with details on the Carrier Assault mode that's part of the Naval Strike expansion. Lead gameplay designer Gustav Halling explains this should be right in the comfort zone of Battlefield 2142 veterans:

"Carrier Assault is an homage to the Titan game mode of Battlefield 2142, but this time the all-out war rages in the South Chinese Sea, and your objective is to destroy the enemy team’s carrier before they infiltrate and destroy yours. Our goal has been to make Carrier Assault a really engaging game mode, and we truly believe the amount of variety present each round will assure this. You start out fighting a big-scale war with sea, land, and air vehicles controlling the map, and then everything evolves into an infantry-focused, close quarter fight inside both carriers at the same time!"

Out of the Blue

This evening marks the beginning of a National Day of Unplugging, which suggests disconnecting from our cell phones and other digital tethers for 24 hours might do some of us good. Here's CNN's explanation: "Although the official holiday lasts for just 24 hours, the idea is to create more awareness of how we interact with our devices and the impact this has on our work, family and mental health. Then people can take smaller steps to carve out device-free pockets of time during the day and eventually find a balance that works for them."
