Gas Guzzlers Extreme Demo

A playable demo for Gas Guzzlers Extreme popped up on Steam last week, a timely chance to sample this car combat game to see if you want to pick it up while it's on sale for 50% off (thanks Frans). The same is true for Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves, which has a new demo and is also half-off. Here's the description for Gas Guzzlers Extreme:

Gas Guzzlers Extreme is a fast, furious, armed-to-the-teeth, trigger-happy shooter, shifted into top gear! Take a white knuckle ride in this crazily addictive combat racing game that features a ton of vehicles, weapons, upgrades, on-track bonuses and environments. Gas Guzzlers Extreme is an exciting new twist on the car combat experience with the addition of furious team/clan combat battles.

Starbound Beta This Week

The Starbound website announces beta testing of Chucklefish's space game will kick off on December 4th. They offer this FAQ on the beta, which refers back to this forum post with further details, which notes that the first of three phases of testing will move quickly, and will include beta and unfinished code. Word is the beta will be available for Windows, Linux, and OS X, and will include multiplayer support.

Thief at 15

Rock, Paper, Shotgun notes yesterday marks 15 years since Thief: The Dark Project shipped (thanks nin), which checks with the Wikipedia, but I think I'll trust our archive from that time that it was actually 15 years ago today, which was a Tuesday. Either way, it's been that long since the release of the stealth classic. In other gaming history, it was 16 years ago today that QUAKE II went gold, and 14 years ago today that QUAKE III Arena went gold, a stark example of how much quicker game development was back in the day. And it was 10 years ago today that X: The Threat arrived in North American and Australian stores. Rounding out the anniversaries, it was nine years ago today that Painkiller: Battle Out Of Hell shipped, kicking off that series.

PC Battlefield 4 Patch This Week

EA's Battlelog has details on a patch DICE hopes to deploy this week for the PC edition of Battlefield 4 (thanks Joystiq/GameInformer). Among other things, this should address the bug resulting in unintended one-shot kills. Here are the patch notes:

  • Removed the blur effect on soldiers that appeared when Commanders were using EMP attacks
  • Fixed the audio bug where audio sometimes randomly dropped out while playing on certain multiplayer maps (typically Golmud Railway and Hainan Resort)
  • Fixed the "one-hit kill bug" where occasionally damage from a single bullet was applied multiple times
  • Fixed a common crash that would occur when exiting from the Single Player Campaign to Main Menu
  • Tweaked the network and computer performance screen to show proper values. Players can now test their computer and network connection and get recommendations if they need to adjust something to improve their gameplay experience.
