Rockstar Games website
has a statement (oddly in the form of a comment to
another post) announcing Grand Theft Auto V
is gold for its console
release, also confirming the legitimacy of
of details, apologizing for the
spoilers which have ensued (thanks
). Here's word:
We’re pleased to confirm that Grand Theft
Auto V has officially gone gold and we’re now preparing the game for release on
September 17th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Unfortunately, as many of you may
already know, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft
Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTAV
assets leading to leaked information and media from the game appearing online.
You can read Sony’s statement on this here:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/08/24/grand-theft-auto-v-update/. As you
can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in
advance of the game's launch. GTAV represents years of hard work by many people
across the world, and we all couldn't be more excited to finally share it with
you properly this September 17th. Please stay tuned here at the Rockstar
Newswire for all announcements about GTAV between now and game release as we
definitely still have more to officially reveal.
As a specific note to our Social Club community, please remember Rule #1 right
above the Comment Box. Please do not proliferate such things here as we
certainly don’t want any misinformation spread from things that are fake nor do
we want spoilers spread regarding anything that might be true. Anyone engaging
in such discussion here at the Rockstar Newswire before September 17th will have
commenting privileges revoked until well after the game’s release. Thank you all
for your understanding and your support.
announcement that set 21 will be the last set of cards released for the World
of Warcraft Trading Card Game
). They offer instructions on how those holding loot cars can
redeem them for in-game goodies in a short FAQ on the topic. This also addresses
the possibility the game will return with a pessimistic outlook: "While we don't
have any specific announcements to make at this time, we don't expect to renew
the license for the WoW TCG."
The Precinct website
features a popup that loads a bit after the rest of the site with word that
fundraising for a proposed follow-up to the Police Quest
cancelled (thanks Don). Like the
fundraising for Shadow of the Eternals, this was their second attempt at this,
as they cancelled
Kickstarter campaign to start a private crowdfunding campaign for a smaller
prototype, but are now throwing in the towel on this as well. Here's a portion
of the post:
To solve many of the issues with our Kickstarter campaign,
our new approach was a staged funding model, based on how traditional video game
investment is done. Rather than getting all of the money up front, our approach
was to install safeguards to validate Precinct's quality and potential as the
product development cycle progressed. This approach would allow us to create a
playable prototype quickly and also work closely with the backers at every stage
of development. On Kickstarter, the overwhelming majority of backers simply
pledged at the level to get a copy of the game. By moving the rewards into an
online store for individual purchase, we were able to significantly lower our
funding needs and allocate more money to actual game development. Using our own
crowdfunding system we could stretch backer dollars even further by not having
to give 5% to Kickstarter and 5% to the Amazon payments platform.
We're fighters and fought our best. Unfortunately, our best wasn't good enough
to overcome the challenges with crowdfunding Precinct. Our new approach
attracted some terrific supporters and we are grateful. However, we simply don't
have the momentum needed to meet the requirements of this project.
Depending on the situation, we may decide to try again someday. The backing
community are wonderfully supportive of Jim Walls making a new game. Likewise,
our team remains passionate about Precinct and are hopeful there is a way to
make Precinct a reality in the future.
A quick campaign note -- if you pledged, thank you very much! Your card will not
be charged. We placed a preapproval on your card when you pledged, but you have
not (and will not) be charged. Thanks for your support!
for Shadow of the Eternals
has a reaction to
crowdfunding Precursor Games' proposed spiritual successor to Eternal
. They offer profuse thanks to their supporters before outlining
their general plan moving forward as they continue to look for a way to make
this project happen:
After we take a one week break, we will be upgrading
the forum software to help improve the experience of our community. The Order
forums will remain open for all those who have pledged on the Kickstarter for
the next few weeks.
It is unfortunate that we were unable to crowd-fund this project at this time,
but we have not given up. We intend to pursue other avenues with the ultimate
goal of having our games come to fruition. Please feel free to migrate over to
our Community Forums at
www.precursorgames.com/forums, as we will be keeping our forums open for
people to enjoy and discuss everything Precursor Games.

It's been increasingly difficult to close the hood on my car, as one latch or
the other would fail to latch properly, something I blamed on age, as the old
girl certainly has her share of wear issues after 13 years and 113K miles.
Because I am constantly opening and closing it to disconnect the battery to
prevent it from draining while sitting, today I decided to discard my assumption
and looked closer, and sure enough there was something gumming up the works. This
was mostly a peach-colored paste with what seemed to be insect bits in it, and
it clung to everything it got on like glue, defying any sort of cleaning solvent
until I tried something oil-based. I'm pretty sure the insect parts were from a
bee or a wasp that got macerated in the latch because in cleaning bits off my
fingers I suffered a slight sting, though thankfully there was only a trace of
venom left in the stinger. After I finally de-gunked my hands I was able to fix
up the latch quickly with some WD-40 and a toothbrush, and it worked like it's
supposed to on the first try, so this seems that fixed things. Now I'm
just stuck with my curiosity over whether the sticky stuff was bug guts, the
start of a wasp hive, some unrelated plant matter, or what.
for Shadow of the Eternals
has concluded, once again
failing to land the funding Precursor Games seeks to create a third-person
action/adventure they plan as a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness
The campaign by this developer comprised of David Dyack and other Silicon
Knights veterans made it up to $323K, less than half their $750K goal.
This is an improvement over their first Kickstarter, which
their initial push failed to land 10% of the commitment they sought, but not
enough to make their game. There's no update since the deadline passed, so
there's no word at this point whether they intend on giving this another try.
has word that Grand Theft Auto V
preloads on PlayStation 3 may
have given enterprising hackers the chance to dope out some of the game's
content by examining the contents of some of the game's files. Spoilers ensue,
which may or may not be made up. There's also a
story on IGN
about soundtrack details making this sound pretty authentic.
Thanks nin and Fantaz.
