Company of Heroes 2 Delayed

SEGA announces Company of Heroes 2 is delayed, and the RTS sequel is now scheduled for release in North America and Europe on June 25th. Relic's RTS sequel was last expected this month, but SEGA's recent acquisition of Relic and the game seems a pretty reasonable excuse for a setback. They also note the game's closed beta, said in December to be near, is still "upcoming." Word is:

SAN FRANCISCO AND LONDON – March 6, 2013 – SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced that Company of Heroes™ 2, the eagerly anticipated strategy game from newly acquired Relic Entertainment, Inc. is scheduled for release on June 25th, 2013 in North America and Europe.

Originally slated for earlier in 2013, Relic Entertainment is using the additional time to help Company of Heroes 2 meet the high standard set by its predecessor, the highest rated strategy game of all time *. Underpinned by the cutting-edge Essence 3.0 Engine™, Company of Heroes 2 brings tactical strategy to life like never before, thanks to the realistic ColdTech™ weather system, the revolutionary dynamic line of sight system, TrueSight™ and realistic destructibility.

Jonathan Dowdeswell, Executive Producer of Company of Heroes 2 commented “Our acquisition by SEGA has given us the chance to work with a new partner that has a great track record of working with long standing PC franchises, It gives us great confidence to know that we have a well aligned team working to bring the best experience we can to gamers around the world.”

“We hate to disappoint our fans with a later than expected date as we know they are eager to play but we feel that the additional time will help the team deliver the high quality sequel fans deserve.” commented Greg Wilson, Producer of Company of Heroes 2. “However, the wait won’t be long as players will soon be able to help us test and balance multiplayer in the upcoming Closed Beta. Details will follow shortly.”

BioShock Infinite Soundtrack Details

The Irrational Games website has details on the soundtrack for BioShock Infinite, which includes a song sung by the game's protagonists (take that Freeman!), saying "Gary Schyman, the original composer for previous BioShock titles, has returned to the composer’s chair once again for BioShock Infinite." Crayon Chronicles Kickstarter

A new Kickstarter is now live for Crayon Chronicles, a roguelike RPG with lighthearted stylized graphics that look like crayon drawings. This is in development at Outer Grid Games, which includes a couple of veterans of Gas Powered Games, though this can't be entirely related to GPG's recent layoffs since they say it has been in part-time development for over three years, and are looking to raise a modest $5,000 to fund a final push out the door. Thanks j.

EA Clarifies All Games Microtransaction Comment

Polygon has a follow-up from EA on recent comments that were widely taken to mean they were building microtransactions into all their games. They quote EA's Blake Jorgensen speaking today at a Wedbush Technology Conference in New York City. "I made a statement in the conference along the lines of 'We'll have micro-transactions in our games' and the community read that to mean all our games, and that's really not true," he said. "All of our mobile games will have micro-transactions in them, because almost all of them are going to a world where they are play for free." Technically, the quote at the time was: "We are building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way," but now the point is clarified.

Torment: Tides of Numenera Kickstarter Live

A Kickstarter campaign is now underway for Torment: Tides of Numenera, offering the promised chance to support this single-player RPG that developer inXile entertainment intends to "continue the thematic legacy of the critically acclaimed Planescape: Torment." The announcement explains that inXile is choosing crowd funding again so soon after overwhelming successes of their Wasteland 2 Kickstarter with great purpose, saying they have "chosen to abandon the traditional publisher-developer business model and focus on crowdsourcing for upcoming projects, beginning with Torment." Here's word on the game they are seeking $900K to develop:

Torment: Tides of Numenera will be a single-player role-playing game, distributed DRM-free for Windows (PC), Mac, and Linux. It will be available in English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian, and Spanish. Torment will continue the thematic legacy of the critically acclaimed Planescape: Torment™ by having to face complex and nuanced morality decisions, carefully contemplating deep and reactive choices with consequences that echo throughout the game all the while immersed into a new and strange vision taken from by renowned designer and writer Monte Cook's new tabletop role-playing game, Numenera™.

In Torment: Tides of Numenera, players will have to decide for themselves the answer to the eternal question, what does one life matter? Numenera's Ninth World is a fantastic vision of a world in which massive civilizations continue to rise and fall with only cities, monuments, and artifacts left behind to serve as reminders of their past existence. These reminders have become part of the accumulated detritus of eons and now this assortment of ancient power, called the numenera, is there for the taking. One of these humans has discovered a way to harness the numenera to grow strong, to cheat death, to skip across the face of centuries in a succession of bodies. But he discovers an unexpected side effect: You.

A new launch trailer for the End Game DLC for Battlefield 3 celebrates the PS3 premium release of this new content for DICE's military shooter sequel (coming to Premium Windows subs on March 12th and to other Windows users on March 26th). There's also a new user created gameplay video on Gameranx (via PCGamesN/VG247) noting an Easter egg in the DLC, as someone with sharp eyes spotted a drone with a Battlefield 2142 faction logo on it, which, coupled with the previous discovery of a "2143" scrawled on a wall has re-sparked speculation about the possibilities of an eventual sequel to Battlefield 2142, the sci-fi installment in series. Blood Bowl: Star Coach Announced

Games Workshop and Cyanide Studio announce Blood Bowl: Star Coach, a free-to-play Blood Bowl spinoff to launch for Windows, OS X, "and tablets" during the second quarter of this year. They offer some screenshots and the following explanation:

Paris, 05th march 2013 – Buoyed by the great success of the Blood Bowl videogame, which is into its fourth year and three expansion packs, Games Workshop and Cyanide partner once again on a new project, based on that well-known, bone-crunching, game of fantasy football! Today, both are happy to announce the arrival of a tactical free-to-play game, called Blood Bowl: Star Coach. The game is planned for release in the second quarter of 2013 on PC, Mac and tablets.

Based on Games Workshop's fantasy football game world, "Blood Bowl: Star Coach" is a tactical multiplayer team-building game. Dwarfs, elves, humans, and other foul creatures are back and, once more, they are determined to grind each other into the turf! Star Coach tasks the player with creating his own Blood Bowl team (choosing from different races and players) and the development of his own offensive and defensive playbook. The player will then challenge other coaches, no matter which digital platform they play on, and choose the strategy that best fits his opponent. The basics of this violent sport are simple: two teams, one ball. The team that carries the ball into the opponent's end zone scores a touchdown, and the team with the most touchdowns at the end of the game is the winner. But, as with the original Blood Bowl, no holds barred violence and dirty tricks are allowed! Matches are resolved by an online server and a ranking system designates the best coaches. Coaches can develop their teams in a variety of different ways and have the opportunity to improve their teams by hiring Star Players or recruiting new staff. A ‘Cabalvision’ replay mode allows players to live out the blow-by-blow contest in full 3D!.

They encourage players concerned with security to begin using their display names to login immediately. Thanks nin.

Out of the Blue

Storm? Nope, I'm in complete denial... it's not happening. You are probably right that this is not going to have the desired effect of actually heading off the impending nor'easter, but it might turn out to be a useful stratagem should the situation eventually call for shoveling, so this is just my version of planning ahead.
