New Wolfenstein Game?

A clue that a new installment in the Wolfenstein series of supernatural World War II shooters is underway was discovered by Polygon, making a case that the game is in the works at Machinegames, a developer acquired by ZeniMax in 2010. They report a cache of Julian Beeston's website where the composer's résumé lists "ADR Engineer, Production Sound" on a Wolfenstein project in development at Machinegames. They also note that it has already been announced that Machinegames, a Swedish developer formed by vets of Starbreeze, "is working on an unannounced project for ZeniMax publishing subsidiary, Bethesda Softworks, that is being built on id Software's revolutionary id Tech® 5 engine technology." Wasteland 2 Trailer

A new Kickstarter update #23 for Wasteland 2 is titled "Without Further Ado...," as it unveils the first gameplay trailer from Wasteland 2, inXile entertainment's upcoming RPG sequel (thanks Techie714 and nin). They provide a very detailed outline of what's in the clip and how it represents the current state of the project. Here's the introductory paragraph:

Without Further Ado... Update #23 · Feb. 09, 2013 · 190 comments We are very proud to provide the first gameplay video of Wasteland 2, which will allow our backers to see how far we've come and how everything is coming together. The usual way of doing things in this industry would see us create a demo specifically for displaying to the press or at game shows, but we're very glad to have been allowed the freedom to create a demo video from an actually playable area, which ensures there's no wasted code. This is a straight video capture of Development Director Chris Keenan playing the game. The only element that is not running in code is the sound effects, as it was faster to do in post, but as you will hear, there is nothing being done audio wise that isn't easily replicated in engine. In fact, we plan to have many more sound effects in the final game than what is heard here.

Take the "Best Downloadable Game" award. This category might have made sense once, when downloadable games were generally the smaller, less ambitious cousins to the AAA games getting retail release. But things have changed. Two of the games in this category this year, The Walking Dead and Journey, were up for Game of the Year, proving downloadable games don't need to be set aside to get recognition anymore. And while Journey was named the best game of the year, somehow The Walking Dead was the best one you could download. Figure that one out.

Out of the Blue

Well, we got the promised storm, and they were not exaggerating, we got well over a foot of snow. And heavy, wet snow at that, made all the worse by how the snowplows pushed a lot of it from the streets onto the sidewalk. I dug out the walk and had to take a break before clearing the car, there was that much of it. I would love a shovel that could tell you how much weight of snow you've lifted, as I estimate it must have been more than a ton today, and I'd love to know whether that's completely crazy or not.
