The Old Republic Roadmap Includes Same Gender Romance Plans

There's a new "State of the Game" update on the Star Wars: The Old Republic Developer Blog, discussing the future of this MMORPG set a long time ago. They outline plans for a version 1.7 update that will bring "some interesting changes to a special PvP area that you have all been asking about" as well as a visit from The Gree Enclave. They also discuss the upcoming Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion, touching on what it will include, and promising further details over the next several months. Though there isn't a lot of nikky-nikk of any sort in the Star Wars movies (besides R2D2 interfacing with any slut computer with an access panel), they say they are still working on a response to a clamor for same gender romance in the game, saying that they are still working on companion characters towards this end, and in the meantime they "are adding SGR with some NPCs on Makeb and do intend on pursuing more SGR options in the future."

2013 is going to be an interesting one, too.

For one, FEZ will finally be ported to other platforms.

Yes, i’ve heard you, dozens of people emailing me everyday telling me how much of an idiot i am for not porting FEZ to everything.

We also have some exciting plans for the soundtrack, and something about a US branch?

Beyond that however, the future is uncertain for polytron.

Valve on VR Latency

A lengthy post on the Valve Blog written by software engineer Michael Abrash discusses his work on creating a viable virtual reality headset for gaming. He goes into detail on the issues involved in reducing the latency in such devices to practical levels, saying: "If you ever thought that AR/VR was just a simple matter of showing an image on the inside of glasses or goggles, I hope that by this point in the blog it’s become clear just how complex and subtle it is to present convincing virtual images..." He discusses some of the breakthroughs they have made so far, but admits "we've only scratched the surface," saying they are now in need of "a true Kobayashi Maru moment" to break through the final physical barriers preventing practical VR. Thanks Polygon/VG247.

Out of the Blue

Happy New Year! Here's to 2013 being different from the years preceding it in more than just trivial ways. We had a quiet New Year's Eve here in the BlueTower, which was great. This turned out to be by choice, as I solved the problem of our car refusing to start. I expressed concern that we had a bigger issue than a dead battery since the engine cut out after turning on the lights following a jumpstart, but that may just have been due to how far gone the battery was, as the terminals were caked with corrosion. A little cleanup and a new battery have set things right for the moment, though if there is some sort of alternator issue or minor drain at work, it may take a while for the new battery to fail, so we shall see. I hope everything worked out as conveniently for all of you as well, and that everyone had a safe and happy celebration.
