Project GODUS Funded

The Kickstarter Campaign for Project GODUS has successfully concluded, ultimately bringing in £526,563, comfortably exceeding the £450,000 goal for this god game from Peter Molyneux and 22cans, and just triggering the stretch goal for a Linux version, while falling short of the final milestone that would have triggered an Ouya version. Word is: "Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting GODUS. Our job is now to work on and complete GODUS, the game we've fallen in love with, and to make it the game you want to play."

WoW 5.2 Preview

The World of Warcraft Website has a preview of the version 5.2 patch for World of Warcraft which will be the first major update of 2013 for the MMORPG. They say this will be coming to the Public Test Real early next month, and in the meantime offer a non-final outline of what it will feature. This includes a new daily quest, a new raid, the ability to purchase farmland, and more.

Maxis: That's Rain on Your Leg

The SimCity Blog has a follow-up to recent outcry over plans to require an internet connection to play the upcoming SimCity revival (thanks GameSpot). Lucy Bradshaw explains to players how this will make the game "even more fun." Here's a bit:

Running the regional simulation on our servers is something we also use to support features that will make this SimCity even more fun. We use the Sim data to update worldwide leaderboards, where you get to see your city or mayoral standings as compared to the other cities in your region and between all of the regions in the world. And since SimCity is a live service, we're also using the data to create weekly global and local challenges for our players that keep the gameplay fresh and surprising.

We think this is the best SimCity ever and it wouldn’t be possible without the technology that powers our game. SimCity was designed to be connected from the ground up. We built the game around GlassBox, which takes the game to another level. And, we’ve given the player control over how to play. You can set your region to private and never interact with other people, or you can play exclusively with friends or join a public region.

PES 2013 Patch

The PES 2013 Website announces a new patch is now available for the Windows and Xbox 360 editions of PES 2013, updating the association football/soccer simulation to version 1.03. The download is mirrored on AtomicGamer, Gamer's Hell, and The Patches Scrolls. Word is: "The 2v2 mode as it was present in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 did not meet your expectations, so the patch 1.03 is offering you the possibility to switch players during 2v2 (and 4v4) while playing Community matches. The overall balance of the game has been revised and new goal celebrations have been added, as well as the presence of our PES Total Player. If you would like to know more about the Patch 1.03, check our patch notes here."

Rise of the Triad Diary

This trailer is a second video developer's diary from Interceptor Entertainment about Rise of the Triad, the upcoming first-person shooter remake. Like the first diary, there is much merriment and frivolity along with information about the game, as they show the operation of a virtual team as they show a level going from concept art to finished product by way of ten different countries. Out of the Blue

Happy winter to those of us in the northern hemisphere, and happy summer to those below the equator (and happy perpetual summer to those along the equator itself), as yesterday was the solstice. As I mentioned along the way in the past couple of crazy days here, the problems with our FiOS phone finally got straightened out: The order was written incorrectly, which held things up, and the pesky order then defied several efforts to purge it from the system, which prevented anything else from happening. We also got our power back last night after a surprisingly long outage: We often have short blackouts from trees breaking overhead lines, but this time there was a fire which caused the pole to fall, and a repair had to wait for them to erect a new one. Thanks for your patience as this got sorted.
