Project GODUS Prototype Footage

A new trailer is now available from Project GODUS on the Kickstarter Page for this upcoming god game from Peter Molyneux and 22cans showing prototype footage. The accompanying update promises another video tomorrow, discusses how terrain will work in the game, and offers a couple of incentives as their fundraiser enters its final three days, an in-game totem and the option of having your faced chipped away in Curiosity. There's a Q&A with Molyneux on Kickstarter (thanks nin) where he explains he needs the kickstart because he is "not by any measure a hugely wealthy individual."

Black Ops 2 Patched

Computer and Video Games has details on a new patch they say is now live in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, with fixes for various aspects of the first-person shooter sequel as well as some multiplayer balance changes. They offer a very extensive list of patch notes.

SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny DLC/Patch

Nordic Games announces plans for three DLC packs they will release over the next three months for SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny, beginning with today's release of Faith in Destiny Scenario 1: Flink's Secret Diary. They are also offering the three episodes as a season pass at a discount. The new release is accompanied by a new patch to update the (on sale) RTS/RPG expansion to version 2.26, adding a new coop/free game mode among other things. Full details on the new patch are here, and here's word on the three new scenarios:

The first enthralling DLC released today is Flink’s Secret Diary, exploring the thrilling and humorous story of thief Flink McWinter. Providing approximately four hours of additional gameplay, players will take on the role of the famous thief and scoundrel who has been set the seemingly impossible task of recovering Order Master Matricus’s stolen Fire Ledger. Set in a world full of orcs, barbarians and thieves, players will also meet Flink's mother, drink wine, meet women and enjoy music.

Flink’s Secret Diary DLC is out now priced USD 3.99, EUR 3.99, and £3.49. The second and third DLC packages will be available to buy on January 18th, 2013 and February 15th, 2013 respectively and will also be priced individually at USD 3.99, EUR 3.99, and £3.49. However those who are looking for a Christmas bargain can purchase the DLC season pass to receive all three for just USD 9.99 EUR 9.99, and £8.99.

Each set before Faith in Destiny, the DLC delves further into the mysterious worlds past. For the first time these three DLCs will allow people to play as one of the non-playable characters from the original story, rather than as the hero himself for a new twist in the tale.

“These great scenarios will allow players to assume characters that they weren’t able to play in the original game but still play with a genuine SpellForce feel,” said Gennaro Giani, Localization and Production Manager at Nordic Games. “There are many faithful SpellForce fans out there and it is important to us to give them something new and thrilling, while remaining true to the RPG and RTS genre that they love.”

Hackers of Newerth

A breach of security on Heroes of Newerth has exposed the passwords used by players of S2 Game's MOBA. Shacknews has the in-game warning being sent to players of the game: "At 2:30 PM EST we became aware that a Heroes of Newerth password security breach had occurred," read an announcement on the login screen. "We encourage everyone to change any passwords that were shared with your Heroes of Newerth account. Do not change your Heroes of Newerth account password at this time."

New War of the Roses Content Wednesday

Paradox Interactive announces plans to release a free content update called Winter Has Arrived on Wednesday for War of the Roses, their multiplayer melee combat game. This new trailer shows off the update, and their cinematic aspirations for this will continue with a part two of the trailer and a live stream of the game on Thursday at 2:00 pm EST on Twitch to demonstrate the new maps and new content. Here's word:

The battles between the houses of York and Lancaster show no signs of slowing down, with heroic knights remaining locked in combat as the cold winter months begin. Paradox Interactive has announced that the newest free content update for War of the Roses, entitled “Winter Has Arrived,” will be available Dec. 19 and includes new armor and weaponry, plus two brand new snow-covered maps based on the historic battles of Wakefield and Towton.

The truly pious will also be able to wield the Dagger and Sword of Mary for Christ’s Mass, inspired by medieval depictions of the Virgin Mary, laden with holy symbols. Both weapons will be available Friday, Dec. 21, at a special holiday price. But that mercy will expire on Dec. 26, at which point the prices will rise to the cost of a King's bounty!

Free Street Fighter X Mega Man Released

Capcom-Unity announces the promised release of Street Fighter X Mega Man as a free download. This trailer shows off the retro-styled fighting game, and here's word:

As revealed just over a week ago, Street Fighter X Mega Man is now available for down FREE on our Mega Man group page. Simply head over, click a couple of times and it's yours. No DRM, no login restrictions, just an easy download.

While playing, feel free to hop into our lovely Mega Man community and forums to discuss strategies, boss order, soundtrack favorites and all that fun stuff. I'll be in there... but I'm not going to spoil anything else about the contents or secrets :)

Again, huge shoutouts to Zong Hui and A_Rival for their tireless work on this project. While it began as a fan effort, it's since blossomed into the real deal. They got their work published, got great work experience (plus compensation, of course) and we got an incredible birthday present for our beloved Blue Bomber.

Frontier Layoffs

Frontier Developments has laid off 14 of the U.K.-based studios' 223 staff, reports Eurogamer, confirming the news with Frontier after a tweet suggesting this cast doubts upon their ongoing Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter and another critical of the timing of layoffs in the holiday season. "Frontier regretfully has given a total of 14 people (from a staff of 233) notice that their roles are redundant, across art (9), animation (3) and audio (2) disciplines. This is due to the changing mix of skills requirements for our current and future projects - it is not a reflection on the company's prospects, which remain healthy," Eurogamer was told by Frontier managing director David Walsh. "Once we took the decision to make the roles redundant, we felt it was better that the affected people knew ASAP so they can plan any further expenditure over the Christmas period accordingly and focus on their search for new roles as soon as possible. We have provided redundancy arrangements in excess of the minimum. We are actively recruiting to shift the balance of skills we have within the company to enable us to deliver the set of projects currently in development."

New X-Motor Racing Editor

The X-Motor Racing Website now offers a new XMR Editor, updating the utility to modify this indie racing game to version 1.41. The download is hosted on this page, and here's a rundown on what this program does: "XMR Editor is a free tool that contains some examples of the cars and tracks. XMR Editor allows you to create cars, tracks and add them into XMR. Also it can be used as a modding tool to import any tracks and cars from many other racing games for your own private use. You can create and add any type of cars: race cars, grand tourers, sports cars, roadsters, supercars, Formula 1, Nascar, SUV, or even your own family car and many more."

U.K. Sales Charts

The latest sales charts on GfK Chart-Track show the 20 bestselling full-price PC games in the U.K. for the week ending December 15th. As is expected at this time of year, the chart is quite static, as all the noteworthy holiday releases have already occurred. Football Manager 2013 remains at number one, and the big movers are Mists of Pandaria going from #13 to number eight and Guild Wars 2 dropping from number eight to #12. The all platforms chart is equally uneventful.

Out of the Blue

Happy Free Shipping Day 2012. Also, Happy birthday Miss Awesome!

Our FiOS installation did not go as perfectly as it could have, though we didn't have any of that dramatic blow up your house stuff some experienced from the earliest days of this. When things concluded yesterday we had Internet and outgoing phone service, but no incoming service, which would be worse if our phone numbers weren't also all screwed up. I got some of this straightened out already this morning, and the final parts of this are expected to fall into place by tomorrow. The internet part of this is pretty awesome, as though it's hard to detect the speed difference, there is an odd latency in loading webpages that's gone away since the changeover, which is inexplicable, but cool.
