An announcement on Steam News the release of the COMMANDER DLC as a free download for Wargame: European Escalation, adding new content to Eugen Systems' real-time strategy game. Wargame’s DLC features "Economy", a new game mode available in both multiplayer and AI matches with new objectives for commanders worldwide. To earn victory in this mode, you will have to reach a certain number of Command Points before your opponents (points obtained by taking control of areas in the field). World of Warcraft Mists of Pandaria Interview

An interview on Blizzplanet.com talks with Greg 'GhostCrawler' Street, hearing from the lead systems designer on World of Warcraft about the new Mists of Pandaria expansion for Blizzard's MMORPG. This is an audio interview (in video format), and here are a few examples from the list of questions they asked:

  • What are some things that you’ve learned in Cataclysm (or prior expansions) that didn’t work out so well that you wanted to change in Mists of Pandaria?
  • One of the things I didn’t like about Cataclysm is how long the final patch lasted until this next release. Are there any plans to fix that kind of wait with Mists?
  • It seems some fans in general seem to romanticize about some classes that currently don’t tank to be able to tank – for example warlocks and shamans. With the new talent system it looks like new specs could just easily be added – Has Blizzard thought about doing something like that at all? What in your opinion would be reasons to not allow that?

GOG.com Announces Announcements

CD Projekt RED and GOG.com announce plans for some announcements on October 18, giving everyone a few weeks to clear their calendars for the occasion. They say they will be revealing plans to bring some of "the best PC games from throughout history to a new operating system" (we assume by "new" they mean new to the games, not a reveal of Windows 9 or OS XI), will offer more details on the upcoming OS X release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and will be unveiling the official title of their upcoming Cyberpunk RPG. As for Cyberpunk, they add: "More exclusive details about the project will be shown." Those interested will be able to participate remotely, as the whole presentation will be streamed live over the internet on The Witcher Facebook Page and GOG.com.

War of the Roses Trailer

This trailer offers episode IV in series of the live-action and gameplay clips leading up to the release of War of the Roses, Fatshark's historical strategy game. This time out our hosts try their hands at sword fighting, put on some armor, and learn the fundamentals of jousting (no actual cabbages were harmed in the creation of this video). This is to be the final such clip before the game's release on October 2nd, and leading up to that release, Paradox has also released a player guide in Adobe Acrobat format. Strategic War in Europe Patch

Matrix Games announces a new patch is now available for Strategic War in Europe to update this turn-based strategy game to version 1.04. Word is: "One of the new features in the Strategic War in Europe update gives players the ability to configure certain features in scenarios. With this new option, players can choose to play without features such as research, purchasing, changing unit types, leveling up units and more. Gameplay improvements were also made, such as increasing the chance of detecting enemy ships and increasing fleet movement points. The v1.04 update also crushes a few bugs for a more improved gameplay experience." The download is available on this page.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Launches

The World of Warcraft Website announces that the Mists of Pandaria expansion is now live in Blizzard's MMORPG, allowing players opportunities to get in touch with their inner kung fu pandas. There were launch events last night to led up to the launch, and the website has coverage of the North American launch party, which includes a nearly five-hour(!!) video of the festivities, and there are galleries with launch coverage on Gaming Illustrated and Hardware Heaven. Here's one last official preview covering professions in the expansion, and here's word on the release:

For millennia, the continent of Pandaria has remained hidden, veiled from the rest of Azeroth behind a wall of impenetrable mists. Now the fog is lifting just as warships of the Horde and the Alliance clash off the coast of the lost continent. As heroes from both factions venture onto Pandaria’s shores to explore its ancient forests and cloud-ringed mountaintops, they soon make contact with the mysterious denizens that dwell there… heralding the start of a new era of discovery and conflict for all of Azeroth.

Gambitious Launches: Earth No More & 3D Realms Live

Gambitious is a new crowd-sourced funding website with a gaming-only focus, and Eurogamer notes that one of the projects listed there is Earth No More, which is "presented" by 3D Realms, the Duke Nukem Forever developer presumed to be defunct following its inability to finish that game after more than a decade. Apparently 3D Realms co-founder Scott Miller is a member of the Gambitious advisory board, which helps explain how it ended up there. There aren't any details for the moment, so it's not clear how closely this Earth No More relates to the game 3D Realms announced in 2007 that got them sued a year later. In 2009, developer Recoil Games said that the collapse of 3D Realms would not derail their first-person shooter, but by the end of the year rumors emerged that the game was on "indefinite hold."
