Matrix Games announces Alea Jacta Est
, a grand strategy game set in the Roman Empire that is apparently looking to capitalize on the huge segment of the market that speaks Latin (on the remote chance you don't, the title translates to "the die is cast"). The game is due next week via digital distribution, and here's word on what to expect:
Alea Jacta Est offers a wide variety of scenarios, from the civil war between Marius and Sulla (and Mithridate of Pontus) from 87 to 82 BC, to the advent of Septimius Severus from 193 to 198 AD. An incredible amount of detail and historical accuracy has been packed into Alea Jacta Est from terrain to units to even the dilemmas and troubles the leaders of Rome actually faced hundreds of years ago. Using the successful and popular AGE engine, Alea Jacta Est will benefit from the ease of the team to create new mods, events, scenarios and more!
Wizards of the Coast now offers the Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 Expansion
, adding more content to the digital version of the card-based strategy game. The PC edition is available through Steam
, where they offer the following summary: "In the Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 Expansion, enjoy five new playable decks whose colors correspond to the guilds in Return to Ravnica, five new puzzling challenges, and ten new single-player campaign levels. Put your spell-slinging skills to the test and try to defeat the guilds and unlock their new decks!"
Superannuation's Kotaku column
has some of the sleuth's latest findings, including word of a cancelled Contra title that had been in the works at Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager Development. Most substantial are the indications that Borderlands 2 DLC is in development at The Workshop, developers of PlayStation Move game Sorcery. In addition to word that they are working on content for Gearbox's new sequel, they also have signs that The Workshop is shopping around its own multiplayer first-person shooter.
The BioWare Social Network
reveals plans for new DLC for Mass Effect 3
called Omega, saying they will provide more details over the coming weeks on this single-player content for the action/RPG sequel (thanks GameInformer
). Here's word:
Yes indeed. Aaryn Flynn did confirm that Omega will be the next Single Player DLC. We'll have more DLC info in the coming weeks. Aaryn also confirmed we are making a new IP (not ME related obviously) and a new Mass Effect game.
It is FAR too early to talk about what this game is or what it will be about. It was only really mentioned because we know that some people will assume that with Ray & Greg leaving BioWare we'll be closing and not making more games. This is, of course, not true. We have Dragon Age 3 Inquisition in the works, more single and multiplay DLC in teh works for ME3, a new game coming in teh Mass Effect franchise and a new IP. Lots of good stuff still to come and when we can fill you in with details, we will. Stay tuned.
The Darkfall Forums
offer the announcement of Darkfall: Unholy Wars
, an expansion coming to Darkfall Online
on November 20th. A website for the add-on
has screenshots along with details on what this will entail, including this feature list:
- Massive Land and Naval PvP Battles: Thousands of players can participate simultaneously in wars and sieges on land and sea, in real-time, on a single server.
- A Huge, Seamless World: The world of Agon is a large open world that consists of both land and water and gives the freedom to players to uncover its hidden secrets.
- Flexible Roles: Choose role at will, switching from meat shield to master mage to benevolent healer. Players can switch between roles, skills, spells, and ability boosters on the fly. Develop your skills in all roles and experience the game in a multitude of different ways over time or specialize in a single role and be the one your friends depend on to fulfill that calling.
- Full Loot: You keep what you kill. Players can loot all of the goods from a slain enemy, and vice versa.
- Persistence: Players can affect the fabric of the game world, constructing and fortifying cities across Agon and building empires that last as long as they can defend them.
A post to an Ask Capcom Thread
from Capcom's Christian Svensson explains that there will probably be a considerable delay before a PC edition of Resident Evil 6
is released to prevent another Resident Evil 4 debacle (thanks Strategy Informer
). Here's word:
It is a small, but appropriately sized team working on the RE6 PC project. It is a different group than originally planned, lest it would have taken even longer than it currently will but this team will do a better job than what was being considered originally.
The process did not begin until after the console versions were complete, submitted, approved by console 1st parties to use that final codebase as the starting point.
It will be some time still before we provide details on release dates and PC specific parameters.
Projects like this you guys seem to think are "trivial" but they are not. When they get treated as trivial, you end up with Resident Evil 4 PC... which I don't think too many true fans were pleased with.

An interview on Just Adventure

, their upcoming continuation of the Broken Sword series that's currently on Kickstarter

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Website
offers details on server consolidation in the Star Wars MMORPG, including a Server Consolidation FAQ
). They explain this follows "the success" of their Free Character Transfer Program:
Following the success of the Free Character Transfer Program, and after closely monitoring server populations, we have now taken the next step in our on-going server population balancing process. We have upgraded destination servers in order to support a significantly higher number of players. As of tomorrow, all characters on origin servers will be automatically moved onto the upgraded high population destination servers. By centralizing our player populations on these higher population destination servers, we feel that we can offer our players the best possible Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ experience.
Arr, avast there! You know lots of people *write* like a pirate today, but I wonder if anyone is actually calling their grocer "matey" in person. Probably not.
