The Secret World Update Tomorrow

Funcom announces plans to roll out the second update for The Secret World tomorrow to add new content to their conspiratorial MMORPG. They have posted this video with a preview of the new content narrated by lead content designer Joel Bylos as well as this article outlining what to expect. Continue here to read the full story.

RIFT Patch; Free Weekend for Ex-Players

The RIFT Website still says the version 1.10 "Calm Before the Storm" update is "coming soon," but Trion Worlds sends word the new update is now live, so if the fantasy MMORPG hasn't been updated yet, it probably will be soon. In conjunction with the update, they announce they will welcome back former players with level 20+ characters this weekend with an opportunity to check out the cross-faction gameplay provided by the new version for free.

Battlefield 3 Cheat Reporting Improved

3BF3Blog has word that DICE has improved the functionality of the "Report" button on Battlelog that can be used to snitch on Battlefield 3 players who cheat, or, you know, kill you too often. They say: "DICE has improved the “Report” player functionality, which now lets users report cheaters and stats padders, and lets them submit links to Battle reports, select the soldier that’s suspected of cheating. DICE promises that reported cheaters will be manually checked by the anti-cheat team at DICE. Hopefully the system will work better this time."

Into the Black

FTL: Faster Than Light This Week

The Steam Page for FTL: Faster Than Light has word that this indie spaceship strategy sim will be released on Friday, providing a pretty quick payoff for their Kickstarter Campaign from less than six months ago (thanks nin). Here's a reminder of what to expect from the game:

In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

Steam Beta Allows Custom Installation Locations

Rock, Paper, Shotgun has instructions distilled from a reddit post on how Steam users can finally select custom locations for their game installations. This is currently only available in the Steam beta and requires a little configuring, but the post includes instructions on how to opt in to the beta as well as on how to enable this new functionality. Thanks nin.

Legend of Grimrock Beta Editor on Steam

The Legend of Grimrock Website asks for help from those willing to test the Dungeon Editor and modding capabilities they've been developing for Legend of Grimrock over the past four months. They are kicking off a short public beta of the editor today on Steam, since Steam's automatic update system will aide them in the process, and provide reassurances that the editor will be available for all versions of the game once it's complete. They are also enlisting the support of anyone willing to give feedback on their modding documentation or work on model and animation exporters. Thanks Joao.

Realms of Ancient War Next Month

Focus Home Interactive announces release plans for R.A.W. Realms of Ancient War, saying Wizarbox's action/RPG is coming to consoles next week, and that the Windows PC edition will follow on October 4th. They also offer a new video to show off co-op gameplay from the hack-and-slash game, saying: "In this great adventure meant for playing together, friends may join any time in the game to lend a hand in assaulting monster hordes of growing strength! Cooperative play maximizes team strengths and optimizes all attack tactics. While a Warrior distracts the enemy in melee battle, the Wizard is free to cast his most powerful spells in safety! Good coordination will be required, as the monsters in cooperative mode will be stronger than the monsters of single player mode!"

BIS Arrests Follow-up

Bohemia Interactive Studios CEO Marek Spanel has posted a statement about the arrest of a pair of BIS employees for espionage (thanks Computer and Video Games). Here's their explanation of what happened:

We can confirm that two Bohemia Interactive employees, our colleagues and friends, were arrested during their holiday trip to Lemnos. They visited the island with the sole purpose of experiencing the island's beautiful surroundings.

Since its establishment in 1999, Bohemia Interactive has created games based only upon publicly available information. We always respect the law and we've never instructed anybody to violate the laws of any country. The same is true for Arma 3.

Currently, all our effort goes towards supporting the guys over there, as well as their friends and families affected by this difficult situation. We sincerely hope that this is an unfortunate misunderstanding of their passion as artists and creators of virtual worlds.3

Out of the Blue

I'm feeling pretty much 100% already from my cold, I just have a little lingering congestion in my chest. That makes this a pretty fast runner: I was really only laid-up for one day on Sunday, which is a pretty good deal. And don't forget today is a big day for Apple fans. That's right, the day that iPhone 6 rumors begin!
