Key features of this DLC include:

  • New Weapons: Got a problem? Solve it by spraying some lead on the move with the all-new auto handgun and assault rifle. Want people to fear you? Show them the shiny new grenade launcher; it will blow them away, literally. Need someone to watch your back? Release the brand new deployablesentry gun to take out your enemies.
  • The Technician: Based on the character Wolf, the technician is a man who knows how to get things done. With a new skill set and equipment, the technician is a techno-sociopath using the sentry-gun and tool kit.
  • One Pays, All Plays: Got friends in high places? If you are tight on cash until the next score, all you need is a friend with the content. The new heists can only be hosted if you own the DLC, but anyone with the base game can join for free.
  • Just When You Think You Are Out, They Pull You Back In: With all new trophies and achievements there is a whole lot more for you to brag about. Also, the sky is the limit with a raised level cap.

Sir, You Are Being Hunted Trailer, Experiment

The Big Robot Website has an alpha teaser trailer from Sir, You Are Being Hunted, an upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-inspired survival game where humans are hunted by robots for sport. The site also offers downloads of a Windows or OS X version of In Ruins, an experiment in procedural generation techniques being used in the game. Here's the explanation from lead programmer Tom Betts: "It’s part of a series of games inspired by artistic interpretations of the sublime, in this case the work of Romantic landscape painters (Thomas Cole, Caspar David Friedrich etc). Its also heavily influenced by Fumito Uedas Ico series. The player is deposited on the edge of a procedurally generated island. The island consists of overgrown pathways ruined spires and broken ramparts. A central tower looms above the island beckoning the player towards it." Thanks nin via Shacknews.

Sacred Citadel Announced; Sacred 3 Next Year

Deep Silver announces Sacred Citadel, an upcoming standalone single-player and co-op game set in the world of Sacred, the IP they acquired due to the demise of Ascaron Entertainment, saying this will be the "new standard for side-scrolling brawlers" when it is released for PCs and consoles via digital distribution next year. The Sacred World Website has screenshots and a reveal trailer, and the announcement calls the game a prologue to Sacred 3, which is also due next year: "The events in Sacred Citadel will act as a prologue to the next chapter of the Sacred story and will unveil an intriguing secret about the Seraphim that will directly relate to the action RPG Sacred 3, currently in development by keen games and to be released in 2013." Here's the full announcement:

Three warriors unite against an evil that threatens to enslave the once peaceful world of Ancaria. Lord Zane’s Ashen Empire has created an army of Grimmocs, modified Orc henchmen at war with the Seraphim. Only when these heroes unite and use their skills to support each other they will stand a chance!

Deep Silver today announced the side-scrolling action brawler Sacred Citadel, a new standalone title that is set in the rich universe of Sacred. Sacred Citadel will reinvent the familiar arcade feel of classic brawlers while setting a new standard for the future of side scrolling hack and slash games.

There are several playable character classes, such as the Safiri Warrior, the Ancarian Ranger and the Khukuri Shaman, each with a different skill set that can be further individualized through RPG features and collectible items. Each character will also have the ability to dual-wield two exchangeable weapons, use combo attacks and perform double jumps. All of which combines into a fluid and unique arcade game experience with sophisticated graphics and spectacular effects. The player will also be able to ride mounts, use war machines and spend his hard earned cash in towns all over the world of Sacred Citadel.

Sacred Citadel will also offer an engrossing multiplayer mode: as up to three players can join forces against their enemies in seamless drop-in/drop-out coop mode.

Standalone DayZ Coming

This blog post announces plans for a standalone version of the DayZ zombie modification for Arma II, something that was first mentioned just a month ago. Here's word:

That’s right, this is actually happening - DayZ will be developed as a standalone game, with me as project lead, by Bohemia Interactive. This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago.

Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.

I realize people will have many, many questions - but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now. Over the coming weeks, these questions will be answered. The game will have it’s own site, www.dayzgame.com and the mod will continue at it’s present link.

Out of the Blue

An issue on the server end of my email popped up last night, and I got to spend 20 minutes listening to prerecorded messages from Network Solutions offering all sorts of helpful "did you know?" tidbits, none of which included the fact that the outage I was reporting was apparently system-wide (even though it was only impacting one of my email addresses). At least the woman who I finally spoke with assured me they were working on it. But as comforting as that sounded, I was met with the same outage this morning, so I dug out a "gold VIP" contact email they sent me at one point to thank me for being a loyal customer for over 15 years to try and cut through some red tape. Sure enough, this got me someone on the phone immediately, who then informed me that he was in sales, and he could transfer me to the tech support department, which now has an extended wait (since if it is still a system-wide outage they are informing customers one at a time). Apparently I'm only a VIP when I'm buying something from them: After that I'm just another blinking light looking to waste their valuable time. After an hour I finally got someone to clear up the error, but I seem to be missing emails, and was unable to phrase my question about this in a form my technical support person was able to understand with her somewhat limited grasp on English. Ever notice it's customer service experiences like this that are *never* followed by one of those brief surveys to let them know how they're doing?
