GTA5 in October?

Alexander O'Dwyer's LinkedIn Profile and a now deleted C.V. each apparently offered an October release window for Grand Theft Auto V. Whether this is accurate or not, it was quickly remedied, as the details for this Rockstar North character animator no longer mention the next installment in the open-world action series at all. Thanks Joystiq.

Borderlands 2 to Add 5th Class Via DLC

GameTrailers has details on plans to add a fifth playable class to Borderlands 2 via post-release DLC. The class is called the Mechromancer, a play on its ability to control mechanized units. Word is this will be launched for free a couple of month's after the role-playing shooter debuts in September, though it's added that this is a "day one purchase incentive," so it may not be free for those who dally in buying the game.

New NVIDIA Beta Drivers Add FXAA

GeForce.com now offers new NVIDIA GeForce beta version 301.24 drivers, adding new gaming features and promising a performance boost in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Here's a bit on what the new driver family introduces:

With the release of the GeForce 301.24 beta driver, a high-speed, shader-based anti-aliasing technique can be applied directly to hundreds of games through the NVIDIA Control Panel. Called NVIDIA FXAA, this technique is up to 60% faster than 4xMSAA, and can produce results equal to or better than the ageing anti-aliasing solution. Furthermore, FXAA is able to anti-alias increasingly-popular transparent textures, as shown in our Batman: Arkham City Graphics Breakdown and Performance Guide, making it the clear winner in many of today’s games.

Quoteworthy - Pachter on Other People's Opinions

Analyst outraged by outrage: "I am certain that the ‘fan outrage’ has not hurt sales, and perhaps has helped sales," says Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. "Unfortunately, appeasing the whiners here will only encourage fans to be even more vocal next time, so the lingering issue is that gamers will feel even more entitled and empowered than they have in the past, and will be even more demanding about changes to future games." Thanks Joao.

The Repopulation Footage

Leesa's story is a new entry on The Repopulation Website with lore from this upcoming MMORPG. This includes this developer-narrated video which uses pre-alpha footage to demonstrate various aspects of city and nation building, showing multiple players constructing buildings, showing off the nation GUI, discussing alliances and more. As was recently announced, they are currently accepting Alpha Test signups for the game. Continue here to read the full story.

Out of the Blue

We had a great time over the weekend, getting to see loads of friends and family at two different gatherings. The new man-stove's debut was glorious, and its performance in the key areas I was hoping to improve upon from my old grill was outstanding: In terms of capacity, I was easily able to manage six hamburgers and eight chicken breasts all at once, and in terms of temperature, it handled being pushed to the 800 °F range to sear the burgers without a hitch. Just awesome.
