Prison Architect Revealed

Introversion's new game they recently hinted about is called Prison Architect, reports PC Gamer. They offer the first screenshot of sorts, and note that this fits Chris Delay's comments about using some of what was developed for the on-hold Subversion, as it turns the game about breaking into a building into a game about breaking out of a building.

On World of Darkness

World of Darkness News has a statement from World of Darkness producer Chris McDonough responding to news of layoffs at CCP and the resulting "significantly reduced team" for the MMORPG:

Hey Guys, sorry I haven't read all of the posts, been a long day and out buying drinks for some folks who are departing. Just wanted to say, this is not the end of World of Darkness, far from it. It is also not vapor ware, as we have been doihng playtests for a while. I have been involved in all of the descisions made surrounding this project and the current situation. I am also in charge of rallying the teams come Monday to refocus our efforts on getting this thing in shape. This is a tough spot, but I can promise you, we still have plenty of guys on staff.

More BF3 Norway Follow-up

We've received another follow-up to the recent report alleging EA was attempting to manipulate review scores of Battlefield 3 by putting pressure on Norwegian gaming sites. We already got word from Gamereactor that the article's references to them were inaccurate, and we just received a similar note from Gamer.no:

This is not true. EA have never refused to give Gamer.no access to a early review copy, and we did not need to answer any leading questions from EA to obtain it either. In fact our copy is shipped already, and should be in our hands tomorrow. There have never been any disagreements between EA and Gamer.no on this case.

Turtle Rock FPS Using CryENGINE?

The Turtle Rock Studios Website offers hints at the Left 4 Dead developer's plans to develop "Secret Project #1 for THQ," which they say "just happens to be the most exciting, ambitious thing we’ve ever attempted," echoing the sentiments they expressed when they signed with THQ earlier this year when the game was referred to as a first-person shooter. This is reinforced by this note from the website: "Experience with CryENGINE would be a major bonus, but not essential." Thanks VG247.

100-Player Renga Debut This Month

wallFour announces they will debut Renga during a live event at GameCity6 in Nottingham, England at the end of this month. Renga is a co-op strategy game played simultaneously by 100 players. This may not sound that impressive in this era of MMOGs, until you learn that these 100 players are all playing on the same screen. As you might imagine, this means it's not played on a 24" monitor:

Groundbreaking new live event company wallFour are presenting the world premiere of their 100-player game on a cinema-sized screen at this year’s GameCity festival. The one-off evening performance on Thursday 27th October will be hosted in the festival base on the Old Market Square in the centre of Nottingham.

Renga is a massive co-operative game for 100 simultaneous players that combines strategic conquest elements from games such as Civilisation with action phases inspired by old-school arcade classics such as Defender. The title refers to a form of collaborative poetry with 100 verses that blossomed in 15th century Japan. The entire audience is able to directly control game elements in parallel using hand-held laser pointers pointed at the screen. The game rewards coordinated pointer movement but allows formations to emerge without advance planning as players observe other points of laser light and join emergent groups, like an improvisational dance.

New Dawn of War II: Retribution DLC

The Chaos Word Bearers Pack adds the iconic Chaos Space Marine Legion, with seven unique models for the major multiplayer units as well as new color schemes for the others.

Lastly, the Death Korps of Krieg Pack adds the iconic Imperial Guard regiment, with ten unique models for the major multiplayer units as well as the Death Korps of Krieg distinctive color patterns.

Op Ed

The Armchair Empire - Curse of the Noire Monkey.
But LA Noire represents a massive missed opportunity.

There was a chance for the developer and publisher to mine the detective stories of radio's Golden Age in North America and real hard boiled detective fiction. I'm writing about the likes of Dragnet, Tales of the Texas Rangers, The Adventures of Sam Spade, the writings of Dashiell Hammett and RaymondChandler, Richard Diamond, and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar ("The man with the action-packed expense account").

The most damning part is that all this source material to which LA Noire owes its style, sensibility, and vibe is so perfectly suited to episodic or serialized downloadable content.
