More on Scrolls Legal Battle

Kotaku has more on the litigation between Bethesda Softworks and Mojang over the Scrolls name Mojang wants to use for a collectible card game, which Bethesda feel infringes on their trademark for The Elder Scrolls. They hear from Bethesda, Mojang and Bethesda's lawyers in an effort to clarify why such a matter is being taken to court, as Bethesda asserts that unless Mojang drops the use of the word Scrolls entirely, they may be in danger of losing their trademark. They also note that while this battle is headed to court in Sweden, the USPTO has already rejects Mojang's application for a U.S. trademark for Scrolls, though to prevent them from using the name, Bethesda will also have to take them to court in the U.S.

Battle Academy – Operation Sealion Beta

Matrix Games announces Battle Academy – Operation Sealion, the latest expansion to Battle Academy, their WWII tactical game series. Before its release, they are seeking beta testers to help test this expansion based on the hypothetical German invasion of Great Britain during World War II. Here more on that:

It is September 1940, and the Germans launch their invasion of Britain. In this fictional "What If?" Campaign , you command the Home Guard's desperate counterattacks against German glider troops and the tenacious defence of the South Coast Sea Front. Mount "Butcher and Bolt" missions with the clandestine Auxiliary Units or land coastal raiders from Motor Gun Boats. Can you hold back the might of Operation Sealion?

Panzer Corps Hotfix Patch

Gotham City Impostors Animated Trailer

This new trailer is an animated short based on the premise of Gotham City Impostors, the first-person shooter where ersatz Jokers will take on Bogus Batmen. The clip does not attempt to over glamorize with the imposters, while paying a little homage to the original The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Continue here to read the full story.

Quoteworthy - Newell on PC Gaming

"People like their PCs. There are huge numbers of them and each person gets to have the one that they like rather than the one that someone else has defined for them," CVG quotes Valve's Gabe Newell from the latest PC Gamer UK. "There were 350 million PCs sold last year so the economies of scale are tremendous so you get great value for money."

There is also an official Feedback Thread for your comments.

Microsoft Planning Cloud Gaming?

Microsoft is preparing to enter the cloud gaming realm pioneered by services like OnLive and Gaikai, according to a report on Electronic Theatre, where they say the service will launch next year (thanks Computer and Video Games). This seems to explain recent indications that the upcoming Windows 8 will incorporate some sort of Xbox LIVE functionality, as word is: "Designed to incorporate the industry-leading online videogames platform Xbox LIVE into all of Microsoft’s devices and software – including Windows Phone 7 and the forthcoming Windows 8 OS (tentative title) – the portal would allow videogames to be delivered across all formats in unison. Microsoft Studios has already seen minor success with regards to these types of application thanks to the likes of Full House Poker, an Xbox LIVE Arcade and Windows Phone 7 title that has proven to be a fertile testing ground, though things may be taken much further in the coming year." Here's a bit more:

Microsoft Studios intends to launch Xbox 360 games across all formats, allowing players to purchase the game once and continue playing on any device. This functionality was revealed prior to the launch of Windows Phone 7 with a handful of simple Xbox LIVE Arcade style games, however now it seems that Microsoft Studios intend to take things even further. Having recently announced cloud storage for Xbox 360 gamers, it seems likely that Microsoft Studios will make available a game streaming service, allowing Xbox 360 games to be played on console, smartphone, tablet or PC.

King's Bounty: Warriors of the North Announced

1C Company announces development of King's Bounty: Warriors of the North, saying the next game in the King's Bounty series of fantasy-themed turn-based strategy/role-playing games is due in the Spring of next year. Cryptic's Neverwinter Delayed, Now a F2P MMOG

Cryptic's Neverwinter, announced last year as a co-op Dungeons & Dragons RPG, is still in the works following the developer's acquisition by Perfect World, but will now be a free-to-play MMOG, in keeping with the publisher's specialty. There's a preview of the new vision for the game on IGN, where they say the game is to be launched around the end of next year. Here's more:

In fact, it's shifting towards the action end of the MMO spectrum. Transferring a Dungeons & Dragons universe into an action setting might sound strange to D&D veterans, but it's been done before with some of the Baldur's Gate games. The 4th Edition of D&D also has some new rules that lend itself well to action games, which is exactly why Neverwinter is using 4th Edition as its ruleset.

Stronghold 3 Next Month

7sixty announces that Stronghold 3 is gold, and the next installment in Firefly Studios' castle building strategy series is planned for worldwide release on October 25th. "Firstly we want to thank fans for waiting patiently for Stronghold 3, it’s been a long time coming but we wanted to make sure we created something really special," said Simon Bradbury, lead designer, Firefly Studios. "This is the ‘ultimate Stronghold’, featuring the best bits from previous titles and some fantastic new elements – like night time sieges and a cutting edge graphics engine." Here's more:

Stronghold 3 is the true sequel to the much-loved original, which sees the return of the franchise’s most notorious enemy: The Wolf. After seemingly falling to his demise following defeat by The Boy, he has cheated death and is back for revenge, along with some of his old supporters and new, more dangerous, allies.

Blacklight: Retribution Beta Nears

Perfect World Entertainment announces closed beta testing of Blacklight: Retribution will get underway on November 10th, saying that in the weeks following they will continue to add participants to the testing of the upcoming first-person shooter. "The development of Blacklight Retribution has been a hard earned labor of love and after receiving praise from both fans and media, we're confident that our work will pay off," said Jared Gerritzen, Creative Director at Zombie Studios. "Closed beta is another step towards a game that we know people will have a great time playing." Just to keep us on our toes, there's also an announcement on the game's website saying the first phase of testing gets underway on October 27th, and that Phase 2 begins on the 10th of November, but whichever is correct, the main point is probably if you are interested in helping test the free-to-play game, you should signup.

Warspire Beta Next Week

Silverlode Interactive announces that beta testing will commence on Tuesday, October 11, for Warspire, their collectible RTS game. In the meantime, those interested in playing right now can still sign up on the Warspire Website for the game's closed alpha test. Word is beta testing will have its rewards:

Beta will launch with two armies available to players – the Light and Undead factions. The game is free-to-play, with additional units available to players for purchase with in-game or real life currency. Once purchased, units become a part of a player’s persistent customizable army. Hero units gain experience and levels that carry over between matches.

“We wanted to provide Beta players with an amazing opportunity to get in on the ground floor of Warspire by providing them with some exclusives,” says Jason Faller, CEO of Silverlode Interactive. “Those who contribute to the Beta phase will receive two free heroes in their starting army, as well as five dollars in free credits.”

Out of the Blue

That Cooper's Hawk seems to be hanging around our backyard pretty regularly now, which is cool, though I haven't gotten another close-up look at him again. I'm guessing he must be making the occasional meal out of the birds that come to our feeder, which is unfortunate, though it is nature in action. I guess this makes me an accessory before-the-fact to his hunting, as unintentional as this may be.
