About 40 Hours of Arkham City

There's a Batman: Arkham City interview on guardian.co.uk discussing the upcoming superhero sequel with Sefton Hill, game director at Rocksteady Studios. Along the way, he tells them how much gameplay to expect, saying: "It takes over 25 hours to complete the main stories in Batman: Arkham City," and that: "The Side Missions in Batman: Arkham City are a good example. We have around 15 hours of story that's off the main path. It's completely down to the player when and how they want to tackle this – there's no right or wrong time." Thanks Destructoid.

Using the unique Turn-Based (WeGo)/Real-Time hybrid game system of our proprietary CMx2 battle engine, the first installment in this new series covers the three months after the Allied D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944, from Operation Overlord in June through the Cobra Breakout in August.

APB-Reloaded Open Beta on Hold

The APB-Reloaded Website has news that the launch of their open beta is on hold, which they say is both "temporary," as well as "until further notice." Word is open testing of open-world action game relaunch is being hindered by a "new player disconnection issue that cropped up in the last 48 hours." Dawn of Fantasy Video Diary

The Dawn of Fantasy Developer Diary #2 is a video introducing Kingdom Wars in the upcoming MMORTS game. The clip features a couple of the game's developers playing through a single-player campaign session to show what to expect. Here's an explanation of Kingdom Wars: "‘Kingdom Wars’ is an exclusively single-player Conquer-the-World style campaign mode with a mix of Skirmish and MMORTS gameplay elements to create a new, action-packed experience. This game mode takes the epic siege warfare, continuous army progression, army construction, and World Map from the massively multiplayer ‘Online Kingdom’ mode and pairs it with an intelligent and aggressive AI, improved diplomacy features, and the ability to control conquered strongholds. At the same time, ‘Kingdom Wars’ leaves out select ‘Online Kingdom’ mode elements including city construction, advanced economic micromanagement, and story-driven quests to promote fast-paced action at every turn."

Valve sent out a note today explaining that there is no need for media outlets to pursue E3 appointments this year, as they are not showing any titles at this year's show. This could be some sort of feint, but it seems like they have nothing to announce or show at this time.

Premium WoW Cross-Realm Play

Battle.net has the announcement that Blizzard is working on a service to allow World of Warcraft players to invite Real ID friends of the same faction to party, even if they play on a different realm. They explain why part of this service will be offered at a premium: "As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR." There is some backlash from users unhappy that this will involve a fee, and the controversy is summarized on IncGamers.

Quote of the Day

"Piracy these days on PC is probably less problematic than second-hand sales on the Xbox," says lead Fable III combat designer Mike West. "I've been working on PC games for many years and piracy is always a problem. There are a lot of honest people out there as well, and if they like your game they'll buy it." Thanks joao.

Out of the Blue

Last night I realized that Hudson the wonder dog was planning a night out before we turned in. I called her in from the backyard and she emerged from a favorite spot under a giant forsythia. I might have considered indulging her desire to be a wild dog for the night, but it was pretty wet out there, though this clearly bothered me more than it did her.
