Dragon Age II SecuROM Follow-up

Reclaim Your Game follows up further on their report that SecuROM is present in Dragon Age II, and BioWare's and EA's contention that the game's release control does not constitute SecuROM. They dig into the semantics of the situation, asserting that the game uses "SecuROM Release Control." They also have an article explaining why they have decided not to work with EA on these DRM-related issues, saying: "We left Bioware and EA to sort themselves out," before going on to expressing their willingness to work with other developers, publishers, and digital distributors to manage such issues. We inquired whether this was a commercial service, and they confirmed it is: "This is a commercial service we offer for Publishers, DRM Vendors and Digital Distributors. Our Evaluation Reports, etc that’s currently published are “free demos” of what to expect. The reports also function as a free service for Consumers." They add that their plan was to offer their services to BioWare for free.

Section 8 Prejudice Nears

Section 8 Prejudice trailer on YouTube looks at Timegate's upcoming first-person shooter sequel at PAX East. In addition to a look at the game and its multiplayer modes, the clip also rests indications of when to expect the game, saying it's due this spring, later saying this will be "we're hoping just a couple more months." Thanks Big Download.

Crytek on Crysis 2, DRM

Round table interview with Nathan Camarillo on Gaming Nexus is part of a group phone conversation with the executive producer of Crysis 2, Crytek's upcoming first-person shooter sequel. Nathan talks about the game's change of setting, the HUD, whether gamers who skipped the first Crysis will be confused, and more. There's also a Crysis 2 interview on GameShark also talking with Nathan about how the game again demonstrates their technical prowess, a bit on the leaked version, and on a related note, his feelings about Digital Rights Management:

"I know there's a lot of negative feelings toward DRM. But, I mean, what are we supposed to do? The actions of a few are causing maybe a mild inconvenience for others. If I'm playing a game and it has DRM on it, do I notice? Not really. I just know that there's something going on, but doesn't really enhance (sic) my play experience. So, it's something that we'll have to look at in the future."

Magicka Vietnam Interview

The Magicka Vietnam interview on Ten Ton Hammer talks with Johan Pilestedt, asking the game director on Magicka about the upcoming expansion of the action/adventure game into southeast Asia. Topics include the setting, weapons, a new cover system, and more. They also received indications Magicka Vietnam may be released as soon as next month.

Out of the Blue

Happy first day of spring to those of us in the northern hemisphere where the vernal equinox will be this evening, and happy fall to those in the southern hemisphere, where it will be the autumnal equinox. I found an easy way to shed a couple of pounds to celebrate the end of winter: I shaved off the beard I had cultivated over the past couple of months, losing about a pound of hair, and another pound of leftover food and small critters that were nesting in there.
