- Field Ops
Computer
Games Online's Field Ops Q&A chats with M. Majeri of Freeze Interactive
and Z. Kovari of Digital Reality about their upcoming FPS/RTS hybrid: "The
original idea was not to merge two genres that had not been combined before
and see if it works. The original idea was to bring players a completely new
and realistic experience of modern conflict. And to really experience modern
war, you need to play it and live both from the perspective of a commander -
the one who designs strategies and tactics, AND through the eyes of a
soldier from the battlefield. Our belief is that the most appropriate mode
to truly be a commander was RTS, and that the best way to be in the action
on the battlefield was to play FPS. So we decided to merge RTS and FPS, and
look for a developer who could do this."
- Titan Quest
RPG
Vault's Titan Quest Update Q&A chats with Iron Lore's Brian Sullivan and
Tom Potter about their imminent action/RPG: "Anyone who likes a good PC
game, especially an RPG, will like Titan Quest. Even though we built a lot
of depth into character development and other parts of the game, we made it
incredibly accessible, so even casual gamers will want to give it a try. And
ultimately, Titan Quest is following in the footsteps of the Diablo games,
which really popularized the category and defined many of its basic tenets,
so we expect many Diablo fans will especially like it."
- Age of Conan
The
Age of
Conan Q&A on FiringSquad talks with Jørgen Tharaldsen of Funcom about
their upcoming MMORPG: "We have set the timeline shortly after the story
'Hour of the dragon', one of the finest stories by Robert E. Howard, the
creator of Conan. In this age Conan has finally ascended the throne as king
of Aquilonia, the mightiest nation of Hyboria (the world of Conan, set in BC
10.000). Bur Conan’s rule is on the brink of chaos, with ancient evils
looming over the lands, and this is where the players come in. They can not
control Conan, but they can be an important part of the epic story which is
about to unfold."
- Hero Online
Game
Designer Jack Stanley talks about the MMO, Hero Online on GameZone is a
Q&A with Jack Stanley about Mgame's martial arts MMORPG: "The game will
definitely support clans and alliances, which will help players in many
aspects of the game including: PvP, PvE, and various other systems. While it
is possible for a player to remain unattached and/or neutral, it will make
it slightly more difficult for him to fully enjoy all the aspects of the
game."
- Sword of the Stars
The
Sword of the Stars
Q&A Part Two on StrategyCore.co.uk continues this chat with Martin
Cirulis of Kerberos Productions about their 4X space game: "I can give you
the baloney answer. Its self-teaching which means by Thursday it'll take
over the world and launch missiles at all of us. And then the Terminator
will come from the future. But the reality is that if anyone tells you that
is selling you a pile of baloney. The reality is that its reactive, which is
a type of learning in the sense that it tries to understand what's happening
to it. If it's entered a battle and it's lost, it asks itself "Why did I
lose?" and it responds "Well, 92% of the damage I took was from missiles.
Huh! Do I have a missile counter of any kind? If yes, I should build ships
with it. If no, can I research it? If still no, what do I do? Well, if I'm
getting missiles from long range, then I need to go after them really,
really fast and hard or avoid them."
- RF Online
RF
Online Q&A on GameSpot covers "Giga 4 Patch Details" for CCR's sci-fi
MMORPG: "The biggest new feature within the crafting system upgrade is that
players now have the ability to craft the rarer A/B grade items. Players
aren't always guaranteed to successfully make their item; as a result of
this there is always an element of risk involved when players choose to
craft. It's these kind of dilemmas that make RF Online so interesting and
fun to play."
- Infinite Dungeons
The
Infinite Dungeons Q&A on Neverwinter Nights Vault banters about this NWN
premium module with BioWare QA testers Stanley Woo & Chris Priestly: "There
is a huge amount of customization in Infinite Dungeons. After you complete
the story, your character gets an item that allows him to modify the dungeon
any way he likes. He can change the size of the dungeon, the difficulty and
composition of the encounters, puzzle difficulty, even what tileset the
dungeon will have! Everything is manipulated through the dungeon control
dialogue."
- URU Live
MMORPG.COM's
URU Live Q&A talks with Cyan's Rand Miller about the off-again and now
on-again online Myst spin-off: "Uru Live never really got a chance to go
'live'. It was cancelled before it officially launched. But there was a huge
amount of interest from the community. Long story short - Turner and Cyan
have had a few opportunities to work together in the past that didn't pan
out. The chance to resurrect Uru under GameTap seemed like a perfect fit for
everyone."
So if you wear a helmet when you do your job, shouldn't it be that much more
comfortable to wear one
on your motorcycle? I hope Ben is okay.

Awesome Deadwood last night… it will be even cooler when I get to watch it
