Archived News:
The
Battlefield 2 Website has new details on what will be
addressed in the upcoming version 1.21 patch for DICE's shooter sequel (thanks
Frans). Once again, they state they are working "around the clock" on the new
version: The patch will be tested in a limited beta starting the end of
this week. We're working around the clock to minimize your wait on the release
of 1.21 but at the same time want to make sure that the patch is thoroughly
tested before it goes out officially.

Quantum computer works best switched off (thanks Mike Martinez) is my favorite story
in a while. Here's the best quote: "A non-running computer produces fewer
errors."
The Linux edition of the new beta version 1.1 Quake 4 patch is now available on
id's FTP server (direct link), corresponding to the Win32 patch released
earlier. If you download it elsewhere, take note of the filename:
quake4-linux-1.1-beta.2.x86.run, because as noted in
Timothee Besset's .plan, an earlier release with the filename
quake4-linux-1.1-beta.x86.run had an issue that would prevent Windows clients
being able to connect.
A new beta version 1.1 patch for Quake 4 is now available, addressing bugs and
adding in-game multiplayer voice chat to Raven's first-person shooter sequel.

Here's word, which includes details on inter-version compatibility, and plans to
include multiplayer maps with the finished version of the patch: This is
the BETA of our broad QUAKE 4 update. It fixes issues and adds gameplay elements
throughout both single and multiplayer—including voice chat in multiplayer, a
forecemodel option, a one-minute warning for tournament matches, fixed pure
server autodownloading, Hyper-Threading Technology support, smooth stairjumping
and a ton of multiplayer specific fixes which have been requested by the
community and discovered during our own gameplay. In short, multiplayer is
fixed. ;) For a complete list of new features, fixes, and changes, please see
the ReadMe file.
This update will bring any previous version of the game completely up to date,
however it will affect pure server and protocol consistency. Therefore, players
who update to 1.1 BETA will only be able to play multiplayer against other 1.1
BETA users, and save games created on previous versions of the game will not be
compatible with the 1.1 BETA update. Please use the form at
www.idsoftware.com/bugs/ to report
any issues you find with the 1.1 BETA update.
Once we are satisfied the 1.1 BETA is completely solid, we will release the
FINAL 1.1 update. This will be a required update and will be available through
the “Update” option in the game. With that release, we’ll also be including 4
all-new multiplayer maps in addition to the QUAKEMAS map pack (3 maps) that was
released in December.
We are currently working with the mod team community to deliver the 1.1 SDK and
bring their mods current as soon as possible. Lastly, stay tuned in the coming
months for additional free game content including new maps and
gametypes.

IGN's F.E.A.R. Sequel Q&A
talks with Monolith about just revealed plans ( story) for a
renamed follow-up to F.E.A.R.: "Of course branding is important. That being
said, consumers did not purchase the game because of the name. They purchased
the product because it had a story, characters, universe and gameplay that
resonated with them. I think that's a pretty compelling reason to do a sequel."
I just realized the Giants have no first-round pick this year... so Spring
Training is definitely my next sporting thrill. When do pitchers and catchers
report? Update: Oops, looks like I was looking at the wrong draft list,
Big Blue indeed has the 25th pick in the first round (whew!).
