"Welcome to Paradise Island, El Presidente"
TAKE-TWO INTERACTIVE AND BREAKAWAY GAMES ANNOUNCE "TROPICO[TM]: PARADISE
ISLAND"
Expansion Pack to Top-Selling Simulation "Tropico" Features More
Than 20 New Scenarios and Wild Tropical Storms
NEW YORK, NY - October 26, 2001 - Computer and video game publisher GodGames,
a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ-TTWO), along with
developer BreakAway Games, today announced "Tropico[TM]: Paradise
Island," an expansion pack for the best-selling simulation
"Tropico." The pack adds new features to the game, creating new powers
and problems for "El Presidente" as the player dictates an island
country's diplomatic, developmental, and political fate. "Tropico: Paradise
Island" is slated to ship in January of 2002.
"We're looking forward to opening a whole new set of challenges for
'Tropico' players," said Phil Steinmeyer, president of PopTop Software.
"On one hand, El Presidente has more tourist attractions - beach villas,
tennis courts and nature preserves lure Yanqui tourists and their fat wallets to
his tropical paradise. On the other hand, El Presidente can now use colonial
forts, army bases, and dungeons to repress the small number of local malcontents
who fail to see the glory of the player's leadership."
"In 'Tropico,' gamers control a tropical tourist mecca or rule an evil,
repressive dictatorship," said Bob McNamara, producer for BreakAway Games,
Paradise Island's developer. "Our goal is to provide more 'fun in the sun'
tourist accommodations and attractions, plus options that include making it
easier to play the bad guy."
Welcome to "Paradise Island" As an all-powerful dictator, each
player of "Tropico" manipulates resources to create his own thriving
Caribbean paradise, while lining his personal Swiss bank account. The
"Paradise Island" expansion pack features new scenarios, people,
vehicles and buildings to increase the power of El Presidente and intensify his
lust for power.
With the expansion pack, the disastrous effects of tropical weather force
players to bow to Mother Nature's will. Her fury abounds in the form of
hurricanes and tropical storms, hoof and mouth disease and red tide. These
disasters translate into both economic and human losses. Fragile buildings
crumble, including homes, docks and bunkhouses. Crops are lost and morale
decreases. As El Presidente, the player must restore the island's beauty and the
people's faith in him.
Other new features include: - More than 20 new scenarios, with a "Gilligan's
Island" spoof, other tourism options and military challenges. - More than a
dozen new building types, including El Presidente's Childhood Home, a Colonial
Fort and a Duty-Free Shop - New characters, including "Eco-Tourist"
and "Spring Break Tourist," with boats catered to their personalities
- Upgrades and new edicts, such as a "World Geographic Special" that
draws more Eco-Tourists, and a Social Security system to increase El
Presidente's respect among voters - New dictator attributes that allow ruthless
rulers to lord over their specialized tourist meccas - Game play enhancements,
including full rotation of many buildings, a more powerful version of Martial
Law, and faster construction
